The picture is my friend Curt with the first duck he has ever shot from a canoe... We went out Saturday with the weather in the 50's and sun shining to hunt ducks. Not your normal duck hunt though, we went canoeing in the swamp in water to shallow for a regular duck boat and mud too deep for waders. We paddled through channels 15 feet wide or less into the middle of the swamp and into small ponds that most folks never see. We came out with a few ducks and many shots taken after dark. Now down in a canoe with the reeds 6 feet over your head you feel all alone in the world, you can hear cars but you only see the channel in front of you and the ducks as they come up. This was Curt's first time shoooting from a canoe and it took a while for him to get on to it but he did connect with a few local teal and a couple of coots. He was excited the first time he dumped a coot but i soon cured him of that i told him HE was going to have to eat them! In the whole afternoon we didn.t see another person or even hear a motor boat. The only thing that bothered Curt was that when we twisted and turned through the swamp he wasn't sure I would get him back. As it got dark we was pretty worried timm i got him back on the main channel and into the river current. Next week we will be taking our camoed kayaks and a sack of decoys to set up on a pond and try calling in a few if the migration has started. Attachments:
