Not crude... for refining into gasoline and other things, although that's related too.
Everything I own needed an oil change all at once... So I schlep off to the parts store to buy oil. Last year when oil prices were wild... they used that as an excuse to jack the price of engine oil up too. Plain ol petroleum oil $3.99 a qt? WTF? Synthetic $7.99 a qt? Double WTF?
There were a couple sales... but STILL! Why didn't oil prices go down when crude dropped from $135 to $35 per barrel?
Robbery I tell you...
I bought 5 qts of synthetic for the Magnum and a filter for $25.99. I bought 4 quarts of Mobile one for the bike at $7.99 each, and a 4 quart jug for the Blazer of plain ol Valvoline for $19.99. Give the state their fee, and it cost me $84 to change the oil in 3 vehicles, and that didn't include 2 filters that I already had on the shelf... AND I had to provide the labor.
I feel like my old man when he learned that blue jeans cost $15 per pair. He'd shit his pants today.

Last year they said they didn't have enough refineries so they were jacking the price up. This fall they are saying there are too many refineries, they're closing two down, so now they're jacking the price up too. It's all a racket. I have a remedy...but it's kinda political

At what I save over the high fuel prices I can deal with paying a bit higher for the oil change. By the way, I also use Mobile One and that is the highest price oil you can buy. ;D Great stuff but you pay for it. I read an article about the truth about oil. Question: How often should you change your oil. Answer: Car manufacturers say every 3000 but the TRUTH of it is this. You do not have to change your oil any more than every 7500 miles. So when you look at that, it means that with modern synthetic oils and a oil change every 7500 you end up paying only about half of what you normally would change it so the price is still about the same. ;D Course a sucker like me changes it every 3000-4000 so really I don't save much. Gotta keep that engine squeaky clean you know.

I have never ever read anything very good about synthetic oils. Other than their addvertisements.

Car MFG's usually say 7500 miles. The synthetic oil people say 12000 miles. I tend to change it between 5000 and 7500 when I run synthetic. Except in the bike. Then it's still 3000 even with synthetic.

My Astro van gets an oil change every 7500 miles I always use Pennzoil and it has 239.000 miles on it an no oil related repairs or problems.
Don't remember why pennzoil but I guess dad always had it in the garage so I used it.
