Allright give us some details (if you had I missed it?). Since my brother got a new Heritage Classic in July I have had the urge to get another bike. I'm not looking for something that big for myself. I really wanted a nice little 500 cc commuter bike, with ability to run at interstate speeds for some day touring. Trouble is nobody is making a normal styled 500 these days? They either make Cruisers or Sports bikes. Closest I have found to what I want is this and it may seem silly for a 60 yr old to ride a sports bike, but there is a 20 yr old 500 twin(Rock Solid) design under the fairing and it has a more upright seating position than the true crotch rockets. I found a new 2005 500F for $4,100 (New Retail is 5.899) and am very tempted. I may need to put on a taller windscreen and some luggage?

Hey Jim,Suzuki made, I think they still do, a single cylinder, 650cc Street bike. A classic thumper. Simplicity at it's finest, or as close as you'll find today. I'd give you more info, but their website is dead. I thought the Japanese were supposed to be technically advanced.... Of course if you want new, but still a classic design, it would be hard to beat a new Triumph Bonneville T100.....

Yes Scott, My youngest brother lives on the edge of the Grand Mesa in western Colorado and rides a 650 Suzuki Enduro. He says it's great on the twisty Mountain roads he rides to work out there abd he can take out on the fireroads as well. Suzuki does have a 650 Thumper in a street bike but it's a cruiser, nice looking one at that, And for a real Classic New 500cc Brit Thumper, one can get a 1956 Royal Enfield Changed very little since 1956 and built in India for between $6-7 K. There is a dealer about half way to Council Bluffs that sells these. The only drawback is top speed is 76 mph which would be fine on Two lanes but would discourage Super Slab running(my 33 mile one way commute is two miles two lane and 31 miles on the Super Slab). My first bike was a 1953 Harley Hummer Hardtail frame originally a 125CC it had a 165 CC Two Stroke 57 motor, A DKW design the US won while settling the spoils of war after wwII. I am a big fan of thumpers, there was a Ducati,BSA,Norton dealer in town in the 60's and many friends had 250 & 350 Thumpers and we used to ride each others bikes a lot. ;D Back Then 350cc was a middle weight bike and the heavies started at 500cc. Now their considered light weights? As for that sweet Bonneville, I've been in the shop drueling over one a couple times in the last month. He sells Suzuki, Kawasaki & Triumph.
