Well here it is or when Scott posts pictures here it will be. I finally took the Husky sxs out and patterened and shot it in, and now it is ready for dove season even if I am NOT. The gun is shooting full and fuller with 2 1/2" 1 Oz loads of #8's and is dead on poinnt of aim, now if I could just improve my aim. I can tell that I haven't shot my quota of 500 blue rocks this year! I have been real reluctant to take this one out in the field because of all the fine colour case all over the gun. The case on the butt is just as nice as the action and the stock is nicely figured VALNUT. The gun is chambered for 2 3/4" shells but I will never shoot over a 1 )Z load in this one as there is no need to punish the gun.

That is a nice piece. It looks just like my 16 ga. Lefaucheux. Where did you find a sling to fit those narrow European sling swivels?

I have another order of 10 coming in next month, they are shipped from Germany where they are still popular. They will be $20 each.

However I found if you carefully remove the existing loops and screws that the remaining holes are just about the the right size and thickness for use with the Michaels-type 1" QD swivels. I have now done this with all my shotguns and the little .22 rolling block. I have carefully saved and labeled the original loops so I can re-install them if I ever need to.

i about shit in my pants as i at first read your post to say you have ten more of those shotguns coming in at 10.00 a piece. i mean really now, it's one thing for a guy to hit the lottery but that was taking it a step beyond! glad it was only the slings!

Read more carefully Jim. He is talking about the slings. ;D Two Moons. If you take the gun apart carefully without screwing up any of the screws and then give the action a light coat of lacquer you will not have problems with the case coming off. Common practice for most company that do Case Coloring anymore. Plus it looks absolutely fantastic when finished. Don't glob it on though, use a airbrush. Also you will want to totally degrease it before hand. If it gets thin just give it another coat. Course you clean it off between coats though. You think it has case color's now wait till you get done doing that to it. ;D ;D

Ah HA!!!! Got you! Guess what it is that degrades case, it's the SUN. UV rays are what wash out the case according to Turnbull. He recommends for maximum life to store the guns out of direct sun light. That said I am just not use to taking out pretty guns, I now have some pretty nice shotguns and am just not use to anything but a parkerized Mossy and am slowly adjusting. I did have an offer to trade my SKB for a Merkel 47 and am thingking. The Charles Daley hasn't been out of the case in 4 years.

Well Doug Turnbull does some very very nice case colors but I have seen guns that were hunted and hunted. Still had their very nice case colors left. All had been coated with either an automotive clear coat or with lacquer. I have also seen guns with nothing on them at all end up with no case color at all after 30 days. Ask Donnie about it sometime. He sat and played with it and held it while he watched TV at night. After the second week he called me and said WTF, the case colors are gone. I said you been setting and watching TV and playing with that gun haven't you. He said Ya Why. I said Hand Oils will remove Case Colors. Believe me, his gun has none. Doug can say what he wants and yes sunlight will possibly fade them over a period of a long time but hand oils and salts will take them off almost immediately. I have hunted with my SXS for almost 5 years now. The case color are all still there without a light spot anywhere. Why? Because I wear gloves whenever I hunt and I keep it oiled and in a case. My Bob Allen gloves are as thin as paper and I can shoot with them on and never have problems feeling the trigger. I keep them oiled with a leather cream and I hardly have problems with hunting in cold weather keeping my hands warm either. If I do I just put my hand in my shooting coat for a short time and their warm again. I know a huge number of people that will tell you the same thing. No problem with Sunlight. Just keep the gun in a silicone sleeve and keep sweaty hands off the case. Like I said, lacquer or clear coat. ;D

Bill I don't disagree with the laquer idea, what I was getting at was that I NEVER thought about sun causing colours to fade. Now remember that a lot of Italian C/C is just a chemical process like blueing and it TTS in a hurry. What convinced me of the sunlight theory was seeing a Stevens 44 that has been in the window of of shop and the case on the sun side was about gone and the other side was still good. I WILL laquer this one, I promise but I will have to think about buying gloves to shoot with!
But I DID get a rise out of you didn't I?

Listing to you guys and your case colours makes one wonder how my old Ballard still has some, would that be the diffrance from old real and new paint? T/M's shotgun should be old and real should it not?

There is a lot of thought on what degrades case color. Sunlight MIGHT degrade it but hand oils destroys it. Of course if your a person like me that has dry hands you don't have near as many problems as a person that has really salty damp hands. Some people can rust a gun just by touching it. Me I don't like faded blue or case so I go further and just wear gloves when I am shooting. When I lived down in Kansas it was hotter than hell and if you wanted to go out and shoot clays you knew you were going to get sweated up and the gun was going to take a beating to its finish so I just learned to shoot with gloves on.
