ok so this may go down as one of my more "WHY ? " trades. i have a win 1300 pump that for some unknown reason i have always wanted a slug barrel for. well this past weekend i see one advertised for sale or trade, it is a rifled slug barrel and most i run across are smooth bores but this one is advertised as rifled. well he was looking for a low power scope for a savage 99, and i had this old scope chief in 1.5-4, i offered it up for an even trade and he says yes. supposenly this barrel is unfired, and likely to stay that way for a while too unless i get one of the midgets conned into shooting it ;D. so he got my scope today, and his barrel should be here tomorrow i hope. i just don't know if i want to shoot this thing just yet as i seem to be healing up well and would like to keep it that way.

I'll shoot it I'll copy some of my private message from last night; I think it's worth everyone reading. With most sabot slugs running in the 12-20 dollar range for 5 --- YES READ THAT --- you may as well try the Remington Buckhammers for $6.99. And how about this - 40% less recoil than the regular buckhammer and you're only giving up 200fps www.remington.com/products/ammunition/shotshell/slugs/managed-recoil_buckhammer.aspStill an impressive 1350 fps from a 72 caliber chunk of lead in excess of 450grains !!! That's what I'd buy GOOD LORD

Hope the trade works out, Jim. If it really is a rifled barrel, you're going to want to try sabots in it. Every rifled barrel I've had exposure to shot sabots very well, but Foster style slugs poorly. And, to drive Red further up the wall, you may have to try a few different brands of sabots to find the one your gun prefers- it can make a big difference.

got the barrel today, it is rifled, has fully adjustable sites, some surface rust but overall for the price a fair deal on my part.

All barrels shoot some slugs well and a few barrels shoot all slugs well.
Sabots are expensive and normally have a punch. I have a mercury recoil reducer in one stock but take it out after sight-in. Invest in a bore sighter in 12 guage or 20 if thats what the 1300 is. take a pad for the shoulder or use a past type rest. they kick. I personally don't use the 3 inch sabots anymore.
I like federal barnes expanders and hornady sst slugs. If those don't work out well then try out something like the lightfields, there more of a hour glass shaped slug. With open sights I would do my shooting at 50 yards and 75 yards. hold a bit higher for 100.
The lightfields shot very long out of mine and I could get 3 inch groups at 150 but the barnes expanders started to tumble at 125 and keyholed the target. The Barnes have unbelievable terminal performance and group well till they tumble.
