I would look for a used frame and the 25-06 or shotgun barrel and buy the 50 cal new, Never can really tell what it been through in a life of that nasty b-powder.
Around here a 50 cal encore is about 530 in camo stock and blue. Barrel from T/c about 250 new. They do sell alot of the encores in 50 and the Omega in 50 cal.
I love my t/c contender but when I bought it the encores were not even though of.
I will look at my local shop as he often gets in encores and they just set in the shop till about september.
I like the thumbhole stock one called the pro-hunter and it runs a bit more.

I was looking at all the opshions offered, Wow they could make this comlicated, I will ask jeff if he has any stock preferance so far he just said SST But it don't look like his shotgun barrel is offerd in SST as I think he would want the open rib smooth bore with 3 cokes

A pro hunter action can be had for under $500 and if bought right it could be for around the $400 mark. The .50 needs its own forend for the .50 barrel and ramrod. The dang barrels is what will kill you. The pro hunter has the stock that is supposed to absorb recoil. The great part about the Pro Hunter is the fact the barrels are 28"s and it gives them an edge in performance over a 24" bolt action in the same caliber.

My friend has the encore 50 cal and was getting some bad groupings untill he got a barnes alignment tool for the ramrod. Cut the groups in half. I guess they get picky in how the bullet is sitting on the powder charge.

I will stick with cartridge stuff and leave the blackpowder to you experts. I guess the barnes X bullets and the sabot sleeve have a tendence to slightly cant in the barrel.

Bill, Jeff bought a CVA APEX instead of the TC at the Omaha store but can not find a Bergara shot gun barrel in 12 ga. 1st choice or 20ga 2nd choice anywere. He wanted to know if you would have any ideas were to find one? Said if he can't find one he may take it back.

Jeff says he found a Bergara barrel in 12ga. camo with full choke screw in type. Said he called Bergara and they tolled him to try some other place and they Had 7 Barrels, So he thinks there are only 6 now to be had anywere right now. I would guess I will get to see what he bought soon.
