who's talking about koolaid The ammunition theft there is crazy because of the gang activity (not to mention the Mills Mall where Cabelas is located is their hangout spots). About 6 months ago some gangbangers came in and stole ammo. The same night, they just happened to kill a young girl in front of her house who was the sister of another gangbanger. The bullet that killed her came from Cabelas. The tracing back to the store is not hearsay, that would be a fact. I'll also add a 500 dollar handgun bought from a store has a blackmarket value on the streets of 2-3 times that. People buying 2-3 guns a week are selling them to gangs and drug lords. Let's not fool ourselfs. Edit Let me also add that no one can use the excuse "well no crimes are being committed". It doesn't matter if there's murders or not --- buying guns or ammunition for felons and trafficing firearms across state lines is of itself a very very serouis criminal action.

All right here's my take from the last 30 years of recovering guns...
You don't recover nice guns from Cabela's, it just doesn't happen 90% of the time. I have a vault full of recovered guns and they are all shit. Cut down 22 rifles sawed off shotguns, hi points and pot metal revolvers. Even in the big cities junk is 80% or more of the take.
I wel remember an interview with a gang banger where he told me..." We don't buy no expensive shit to waste somebody we just break the bback window on some farmers truck and whack the barrel off what we find". This was in connection with a sawed off 410 that we still have in our collection.
In point of fact STRAW man purchases usually turn out to be somebody buying a gun for a friend out of state or for a prohibited family member rather than going to gangs, they would rather spend their money on drugs! Why BUY what you are STEALING every day? We have yet to trace a gang bangers gun back to a legitimate purchase.
Unfortunatly our current laws on protection orders and family violence have created a whole new class of felons, misdemeanor assaulters who are now not able to hunt or shoot and who may rightly feel they have gotten the shaft. Just last year we had a woman file a P/O on her ex just before deer season so he would have to turn in his guns, "It's the worst thing I can think of to do to him". So when his friend loaned him a riifle we now have two felons...

I have to agree with Twomoons. I've seen a lot of those 'buyback' programs over the years, where the police or someone will buy a gun to get it off the streets, no questions asked. Then the show the haul of firearms on TV and proudly proclaim what a good job they've done, etc. Tables full of garbage- just like Twomoons said. And, think about it: if you're going to use a gun in a crime, wouldn't you be smart to ditch it afterwards? Why buy the expensive stuff for a 'use once and throw away'?

Just get rid of the barrel and extractor of a good auto and purchase another set. or have several available. Wthout that would you not be able to trace an auto to the crime assuming the barrel and extractor would be what leaves to traceable evidance at the scene in the spent bullet and casing.
I think this lady was buying some trash like the jennings/raven 25 acp and 32.s and doing it fairly regularly like every 3 or 4 weeks for quite a while.
I have seen a few photos of those gun buy backs and they were giving like 30-40 bucks per gun. What did you expect to show up there. I did see two SKS and what apeared to be a savage model 24 in the pile.

Thing is that in a way selling guns to a CCW holder in the state of Indiana requires no waiting period and there are at this time no restriction of the amount of guns you can buy. That's not true anymore. A few years ago the Indiana State police thummbed their nose at the Fed, and in response, the Fed nolonger allows the Indiana CCW to substitute for a background check. I have bought a couple long guns in the last couple years, and have been delayed on my "instant" check, every time. Jabba

Here's MY deal... if the people (gangbangers) can't be trusted not to use guns when thay are not allowed to...
PUT THEM IN JAIL. Don't release them with rules... keep them in jail. Make the three strikes rule a two strikes rule... and enforce it.

jabba, for the last few yearsI have just been purchasing stuff from my FFL and all the paperwork and phone calls have already been made before I get to his house. So with My CCW they still have have to call stuff in and do a waiting period on handgun purchases? He just hands them over to me when I give him my 15 dollars.

Man this one drifted from fishing lures!

So anyway the problem with finding fishing lures is that I almost exclusively use plastic worms.
Now I'm all for grabbing lures when I find them laying on the ground (I'll even pick up old used plastic worms and bite the heads off of them so I use them) ;D But the problem is I have a tacklebox full of lures with rusty hooks that I'm never going to use/replace.

I don't think you have to wait... but you do have to be beckground checked now. At least that's how I understand it. I have been delayed 3 times recently, and I have a valid CCW. Jabba
