No doubt we have a centerfire ammo shortage now and there looks like there's no end in sight. While the price of lead balls has gone up, round balls are at least still available. All of the muzzleloader supplies is still available because most people who own muzzleloaders only do so to extend their hunting season (cough cough sorry cough cough). So why not pick up a cap and ball revolver and go to town. Afterall, if you want to shoot a handgun this is getting to be about your only choice. Only problem is people will be buying those wells fargo type of 30caliber pocket revolvers and everyone will start calling them "tactical pistols"

I have had a .44 cal. '58 Remington Repro now for probably 20 years. They are fun to shoot - mine actually shoots pretty close to the point of aim at 25 yds. However, I haven't shot it that much as it is such a pain to clean and I am lazy. I've been wanting to take it out and shoot it though. I think I'll take it with me the next time I go to the range.

A postscript:
I went to my club range yesterday, taking two of my .38/.357 revolvers. On a second thought I also put my .44 cal. '58 Army Remington repro in my shooting bag. After shooting a couple of boxes of ammo through the other two I got out the Remington stoked it up with round balls, wonder wads, FFFg powder, and percussion caps and proceeded to shoot on the 25-yd range. Wow, I had forgotten just how accurate and, more importantly, how much fun shooting these guns can be. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was shooting just as well, if not more so, with the old Remington as I was with the two centerfires. I had several other guys at the range come over ask if they could load and shoot it. After a short tutorial I let them have at it. Apparently these guys had never shot muzzle loaders before and you would have thought they were kids turned loose in a candy shop. At least two of them said they were going to buy a cap 'n ball repro revolver.
;D

People underestimate these guns (single actions in general). I guess you don't need to unload a clip of 15 in less than 2 seconds to have fun

Well I knew it was going to happen We've successfully managed to start a backorder of #10 caps, wads, and certain sized pistol balls. I'm being told the Cabelas store here hasn't had any of those compoments in over a month.

Well maybe it's time for TwoMoons to hold class? We may need to learn how to make our own primers. Pistol ball molds should not be hard to find.

Someone was all excited on the news a day or so ago, they found a sack of guns in a river. It sounded like 4 but hears the unusual part they were said to be cap & ball revolvers. Now what kind of thinking would do that? would seem doughtfull they were crime guns? But maybe a criminal had them and decided not too? Guess that would be my guess or some widow asked a neighbor to get rid of them for her?

I'm going to modify what my brother said but it goes something like this:
"Wait till the gang members figure out they don't need a background check to buy cap and balls. I'm not sure they'll know how to load them though..."
