Like Edison and his lightbulb,I have found many ways not to make a knife in several endeavors since I was 15.
That does not mean I will not keep trying, till I get it right.
One Thing I have learned is the 1 X42 belt sander may be fine for wood work, but is inadequate for metal work.
So I have been searching for a Knife Grinder.
The KMG from Beaumont and the Bader BIII seem to be the most highly regarded by the pro and semi-pro makers.
Some do use Tool Room Grinders, but they run several thousands of dollars.
They are nice but a little steep for my budget

Supplier of one of the best & components. Rob FRink is very willing to support home shop builders in grinder design.
And here is a link to ABS Master Smith Ed Caffrey's Review of and modifications he made to the KMG Grinder. BTW this is an interesting site in general.

And Here's the Bader BIII nice but again out of my price range at this time.
The least expensive quality grinder I have found is the Coote Grinder, However I think options for grinding styles is limited with it. www.cootebeltgrinder.com/
I think for the price of the Coote, I can get the components to make a better grinder??

A good source for knifemaking supplies, they also have plans for a no weld grinder. Reports are that the grinder works well, looks a little crude for my taste.

Here are plans for a KMG Clone (He made his from Aluminum plate) I think I'll take off these plans and use Steel.
Instead of forming the Tool Bar reciever from plate I'll look for a steel tube that will accept the toolbar.
Oh I should admit Grizzly makes a knife Grinder/Buffer that sells for a bit over $400 that might work for others.
However the motor is a bit close on the left side of the belt.
Being left handed, I think it would be awkward for my use.
