am I correct in the notion that it does NOT have MDP like my Magnum does?

Jabba, I checked the MPG on the last couple tanks of gas.... from my figures I'm getting 17 to 17.2 mpg around town. I have taken her on one short/long distance run (about 75 miles one way) and got a little over 20.
Now, please explain to me what MDP is. I have no idea and I'm not that far in the owners manual yet. Hell, I'm still trying to figure out the GPS system... LOL.... It's totally different than my "Tom Tom" that I use in the truck.
The sales guy explained to me something about 6 cyl's doing to the work up to 2K rpm then 8 cyl's taking over or something like that. I'm still trying to put it all together with that owners manual. You gotta be some kind of Philidelphia Lawyer to figure all this stuff out. I sure like all the do-dads that we have now but I don't know anything about them. I sure miss the days when you could pull you vehicle under a tree and work on it or just understand how the stuff operates.

MDS is the system that allows the car to run on 4 cylinders when it's cruising and doesn't need the horse power. So yeah... that's what the sales guy meant. It's not REALLY like what you say there though. Mine runs on 8 when it's cold, and in town. But if I get on the open road and everything is good, and it's just loafing along, it switches to run on only 4 cylinders. I can't tell at ALL other than MPG goes from 17 to 23 or so. I didn't think the 6.1 liter cars had MDS though. I'll have to look into it. This comes from the dodge we-site. The 6.1-liter SRT® HEMI® V8 is the highest naturally aspirated specific-output engine ever offered in a Challenger. It features: Performance-oriented camshaft profiles Aggressively designed cylinder heads and intake and exhaust systems to help maximize airflow and increase engine speed. The 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 available with Multi-Displacement System (MDS) delivers: Variable Cam Timing, bringing more power and optimal performance Greater efficiency when equipped with MDS[1] Dual ignition (two spark plugs per cylinder) to increase peak power and torque. Looks to me like the 6.1 does NOT have MDS while the 5.7 Does. www.dodge.com/en/2009/challenger/performance/engine/Good luck with your surgery by the way. I am not sure what it's for... but that doesn't matter. I hope it goes well. Jabba

Ok, I got the "sticker" that was displayed in the window when I bought it and read everything it has in it. It DOES NOT have the 6.1 ltr ... it DOES have the 5.7 Hemi. So, the badging IS correct. I did a little research and found it does not have the 410 hp but has anywhere between 340 and 375 hp when it's red-lined. I have red-lined it a couple times to see just what she'd do... I can say, it will FLAT MOVE DOWN THE ROAD ... ... So, I guess it does have the MDS in it.

Yeah... now it all makes more sense.... mileage... badging.... You have the same powerplant I have. The Challengers is rated at 370 HP with the automatic. Mine is rated at 340 HP, but mine has been tweaked a little. 20+ MPG makes sense to me too with the 5.7 with MDS. I am not QUITE as jealous as I was before... but I am still jealous. Your's looks A LOT nicer than mine... even if it's closer in HP. Plus... yours is lighter too, so there is no doubt yours would walk mine in a drag race. But not while carrying: 12 2x4's a surfboard guitar... etc. Drive safe Bubba. Jabba
