I've yet to know a bike owner who hasn't had a very serouis injury.
This guy I grew up with down the street had an accident over the weekend. He was trying to make a left turn off the 2 lane highway and the truck behind him didn't see him. So he got ran into at over 60 mph. To make matters worse he got slammed into the other truck heading the opposite direction (that he was waiting on).
Right now we think he's going to live. He's paralized from the chest down (apparently has use of his arms). The hospital put him in a coma for whatever reasons, so we don't know if he's blind yet.
Lesson learned, don't ride a bike.

Red; first off sorry to hear about your friend!! But having a bike can be dangerous and you have to watch out for yourself and the other idiots on the road, that said hunting and handling a firearm is dangerous but I ain't gonna quit doing that....

Red I understand where your coming from. I have lost friends to accidents and seen them seriously injured. Took a few spills myself, fortunately not anything that would not heal. But telling a Biker he should not ride is like telling someone he should change his DNA. Once it gets in your blood your hooked for life. I started riding when I was 14 and will ride every chance I get. I sold my custom built competition Observed Trials bike over 20 yrs ago and have not owned one since. But that does not stop me from having the urge on a day like today when it's 70 degrees out. And you can be sure one day I'll own another.

That happens with cars to all the time also Red. Must always ride very defencively every time. I have ben riding sence age 7 and nothing serious ever but their are some things I will not do offten and that is ride in a city on a everyday basis, When young and liveing in Omaha & lincoln I did not ever take my bike to the city. Yes I ocasionaly go into a city and I have ben to sturgis many times. I allso avoid heavy traffic when posible. Never ever make a lane change with out looking well behind you. If your comeing on a intersection make eye contact with others at intersection and watch behind you as you may need to stop or detoure in a instant. This time of year motorist are not use to seeing and thinking bikes and do not see you. You have to forget that you have the rightaway and ride defencivly all the time in traffic.

It always sucks when a biker gets smashed by someone in a cage. But I'll tell you this... more people die in cars getting hit by drunks. Studies show that an adult man, is less likely to be involved in an accident when he's on a bike, than the same man is in a car. Plus... scientific studies actually prove that riding a motorcycle makes you smarter... www.instantnews.net/riding-motorcycles-aids-smart-ageing.aspxI agree with everyone else. If you don't get it, no one will ever be able to explain it to you. I look at it like this. I am not willing to be afraid to live because I am afraid to die. Jabba
