I got no beef with it, do hunters only shoot lone bears? If they do thats news to me. But my guess is that more run than charge. Remeber I have not hunted bear. Seems I read Grissly Adams killed 800 grisslys with a Hawken rifle .54 I belive and then would emty his Navy colt .36 in its ear and if that wasent enough it was knife time, Now that's Gut's

Yes but... It wasn't Grizzly Adams, the real man was Seth Kinman. I will send a picture to Red to post. Seth was a California hunter and made bears his specialty. Bounce is right he used a Hawken rifle and then his Navy Colt. He also carried a 13" bowie knife and a good picture of it is found in Madison Grant's book on Knives of Early America. Seth's real fame came with his presentation of a chair made from Elk antler to President Lincoln. His other FAMOUS chair was made from Grizzly bear claws and hides and it had a special feature, when you pulled a rope on the arm of the chair a bears head came out from between the legs of the chair and snapped it's jaws at you!

Besides being a hell of a hunter, Old Seth was obviously quite a craftsman too....

Here is a great article on him. It's in PDF format so I couldn't copy it, so here is the link...... query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?_r=1&res=9A06E7DD1F39E533A2575AC0A9649D94649FD7CFInteresting character. You've got to be right Bounce, he could never been bored. Just think, besides his hunting, trapping, and outdoor activities, he made all those fancy buckskin clothes, those chairs and other items that got him an audience in front of five presidents. Just travelling across the country, and back, all those times was a big undertaking back then.
