and don't forget that monster buck photo that turned out to be false.it was suppose to be 412lbs or something like that, so until it is all verified (maybe it has already) you have to hold thought on it.

That deer picture is horrible
The elk photo so far holds up. Doesn't look copy/pasted, the whole thing is grainy, and the shadows all match I think.
I don't know what that orange thing on the elk's head is though?

Supposedly the hunter was interviewed on a Idaho radio show. I am trying to find more information.

Called the Spider Elk this was shot in the Monroe Unit in Richfield Idaho by Dennny Austed. Lars Larson.Com has the interview with the hunter. Supposedly this is scored green at over 500 and will be final scored after 60 days. They think at this point that this may end up the largest non typical rack ever taken. I can find NO evidence anywhere that this is anything other than a fair chase hunt and the hunter claims he shot it at 180 yards.

i would have to buy a new house just to have a wall big enough to display the mount on.

I just want to know how big a magnum he used... Red will be devastated if he took it with an '06, or heaven forbid, something smaller.... ;D

A custom MAGNUM rifle with a 416 case necked down to 30 caliber and pushing a 165 gr. Barnes bullet at 3700 fps. Don't think he didn't brag up this wildcat! Lars kind of shot him down when he said that at 180 yards his 30-06 would have done the job.

Your house would have to be a church with a big garage door to get that suker in side. Elk mounts just don't work in most homes. Unless they are small and 10 foot cellings. I don't belive the 40 lbs for the rack? seems dubble that would be closer? Ben at two differant sales that had huge racks and man are they heavy, especialy huge moose.

I listened to the interview, Red would be proud. The guy is a real magnum afficiando, big wildcats. I sort of figured that when I saw that long barrel in the picture.

My ex city manager Eric Koeppe's dad went elk huntng and kiled a 6x6 Bull elk. He droppped off the cape and rack to be mounted and 6 mo later it was delivered. He tried it in the living room and the nose was crotch high, no go. He tried it in the entry hall and the nose was at eye level and the rack stuck up to the second floor where the kids hung junk off the horns, no go. The elk ended up in the garage with a red rubber ball over his nose- whne the car hoood touched the ball you were parked. This cost him over $1100 dollars.

I'm going to take some heat for this (from those that think I generalize) But I think most people that can afford these kind of hunts already have a nice big house with cathedral ceilings and plenty of room for such a mount. They probably bought that feature for just such event...
