Jeff my pheasant raiseing partner and brother to my daughters, decided to have game birds mounted that it seems few peaple do. Last seasion he took a partige to mount and a prarie chicken both shot on my place. He showed them to me yesterday and both were flying and were realy kool to me theise mounts are even better than trophy heads of deer , hogs, elk pheasants ect. that you see much more offten. Now I think sheep are pretty special though. Jeff allso shot a snipe this seasion hear and took it to the taxidermist to do allso, The guy had to look it up in his book to Identify it as he had never ben asked to do one before. He's looking to get a woodcock too.

Stoped by Jeffs house yesterday after the gun show and saw his prarie chicken on his dinning room wall. It is beautifull, a perffict match with the wood it is mounted on and the dark wood trim of the room and the bird is awsome!! Tried to picture other animals their like deer heads etc all in truth would be some what tacky but that chicken is art and nothing tacky about it. He said it cost him $200 and I said well worth every cent.

The good thing about birds is that they aren't too costly to mount compared to big game animals. The cheapest deer are going for 400 now.
You can really add some attention to the room with birds and the cost is pretty reasonable. I think the hardest part is determining if that bird is the biggest / most beautifull bird that you're likely to kill of that species. You hate to think you made a choice only for you to kill a better one next year.
So I think you don't rush into things mounting birds.

I think a nice bird will make a nice mount. This is not nessasaraly or need to be a trophy thing. As it would be no big thing at least to me if the tail was not a record or the beard ect. just a nice specimen of the species would be fine. As this I all ready know is true and they out shine the animal trophies that we see all the time. Lesser is just better in most homes.
