First off, this is not a vote of "Are you going". This is a vote for "Is this the best option presented". If choosen, there are obvouisly a number of things we still need to work out...AND WE WILL. Those of you who are undecided on whether you're going or not, does this hunt make the most sense as a whole?
We've had several good ideas the last few weeks and things have slowed down enough that I think we can potentially choose at this time.
I've been doing a lot of reading of all the replies and have come up with the following personal conclusions.
Turkey hunting Nebraska in late April makes sense even though it was originally the farthest thing from my mind when we started.

- It's about as economical as we're going to get and we have a couple lodging / food choices
- We have 3 members who are very willing to assist us. They know the towns, they know the hunting area, and are willing to set camps if need be. I think it is comforting that we are not being led somewhere totally unknown. Furthermore, maps and regulations can be mailed out to you from the Reservation and I can give you that phone number at a later time.
- It's a hunt that people of every physical level can do. You can walk for miles or sit tight in a blind and have equal chances.
- It's as centralized as you can get which allows for a fair distance driving for the most number of people. Weather / road conditions are not an issue (except rain) and excessive gear is not required. If someone wants to drive a car to save money, they should be able to do so I would think.
- True, we can kill turkeys anywhere --- some of us have better hunting areas than others. Me, I haven't had success in 5 years. Bubba has never killed one, etc. In addition, I think this is a chance to kill a different subspecies than what we're used to and it might be a good excuse to do a fan mount or a full body mount. I would think we'd be able to find dry ice which means that a turkey could be froze solid and remain so in a cooler until you get home.
- As DD said, this could almost be a scouting trip for deer should you ever want to go back on your own or in a group. You can do some walking and get a good idea of what the deer hunting might be like.
