Merriams, Rio Grande, or Eastern??? I wouldn't mind a full body mount of a big Merriams or Rio Grande with those white tail/back feathers. I've got a taxedermist whose getting up there in age who does a hell of a job on turkey mounts. Bird mounts are like fish mounts --- everyone does them, few do them right.

Here are some brochures for those who would like to take a look www.ngpc.state.ne.us/hunting/pdfs/turkey/2008turkey.pdfwww.ngpc.state.ne.us/hunting/pdfs/turkey/springturkregs.pdfThe season starts on the saturday closest to the 15th. If I am correct then, the season should start on April 18th, 2009. Perhaps we could start the hunt on like Monday April 27, 2009??? That would allow the locals to get their fill of hunting two weekends and it does not involve Mother's day weekend (May 10th). If hunting pressure is fairly light, perhaps Monday April 20th??? I'll let the locals here on the board comment about the dates though (their availabilty, hunting pressure, and best time traditionally to hunt)

ML season in Neb sounds good to me but again, I like it all ... does Neb have any kinds of laws restricting your choice of ML? What I'm getting at is do they restrict the use of In-lines with scopes?

DON'T BUY THEIR PERMITS They aren't any good on the Rez!!!!!!! The Rez mirrors the state reg's but you need their ( the Rez' ) permit. So don't waste your money on a State of Nebraska permit... I can't speak for 2M's and Bounce but as long as there isn't any homicide investigations or something of that nature going on, we should be available. Except Mother's day when I take Lil' Mama out to dinner. April 20th sounds good.... I don't know when Rendezvous is next spring.

My thoughts on deer hunting
I think it's going to be hard getting people to give up their home deer season (especially centerfire but also muzzleloader) to go to a place they've never seen.
As don said a few posts back, we could use turkey season to get a feel for the land (since turkey hunting normally means walking several miles a day - at least the way I hunt). That would not only ease some concerns people may have about the land but would also give them an idea of spots they might want to deer hunt at sometime. Turkey hunting unfamiliar land is easier than deer hunting it - in my opinion.

I would like to see you all that can, come do a turkey hunt hear on the Res. in the spring and think you all should do the Grouse thing with Bullseye the next fall. That would be two great starters in my book. jmo, Then maybe some of the others?
