Never had one, do remember sevral owning them and they seemed to like them very well, but old is old when finding parts sometimes and your likely to need to. Not shure that they are old enough yet to be conciderd pretty yet?

Or, as the saying goes: "I couldn't fix your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

If the price is reasonable, it's a good investment. Those Jeeps are a fine automobile and the nice thing is there is no shortage of replacement and aftermarket parts. Problem around here is they rot out before they wear out. Only reason I did not keep my CJ5! I would have had to replace the frame and body, still regret letting it go! Had as much fun with it as I did the Hot Rods I had in my youth and never got a ticket with it. Guessing I would say if Drums and linings are ok it probably is the master cylinder. Course with 8-12 hrs between us I'm just guessing!

I knew several guys who had those Commandos. They never got a chance to wear out the engine or drive train as the body would rot out in 3 or 4 years. They sure weren't very salt resistant.
If it has remained rot free, it should make a good vehichle. Like Jim said, parts are plentiful so if you keep it out of the salt you can keep it runnin' forever.

I will say if I lived in Colorado I definately would own a Jeep. The problem around here is anyplace you need 4 wheel drive to go,You probably have no business going there. Hmm I say that while I'm driving an s-10 Blazer?

I've learned two things about moutains & flatlanders and their cars & tucks. If your from the mountains and your car or truck is working just fine, you can go too the flat lands and drive it 15 to 20 more years. If you are a flatlander with a car or truck that runs just fine and you want to go to the mountains, do not go unless your ready to buy a good car or truck as yours ain't going to cut much mountain driveing. Though it may have lasted a long time had you stayed home.

When I graduated from college along about that time and got my first real job I wanted a 4x4. I looked at and fairly extensively test drove the Commando, the Bronco, and the Scout. I bought the Scout as it handled and drove the best of the three on the road because its longer wheel base. It also had a V-8, under-powered though it was. I liked the Commando though and would have certainly been happy with it.

There is a Commando around here that is TOTALLY Rhino-Lined on the outside. It's pretty cool. I imagine it's hiding less than stellar body work... but who cares if it's a working, off road car.
I do NOT fit into a CJ-5. I can't get past the side panel and into the seat worth a damn.

Never owned any of the above mentioned. Mine always looked more like a tank. Blazers and Expedition, 1/2 and 3/4 ton 4X4's. Always wanted a Jeep but for the main vehicle I could never justify it. Brother has a CJ5 sitting in his shed that is in good shape body wise but has the 4 cylinder fuel injected motor blown. Nephew drove it 80 mph on mountain roads all the time. Thought it indestructible. Found out it would come apart. Also found it is really costly to repair the engine. Thus the reason its sitting in the shed for 3 years now. ;D ;D ;D Parts might be readily available but boy do they cost. ;D
