next door and BOTH times they have come home broken.
1st time he borrowed my weed eater to go out and make some money trimming. When he filled the spool he reassembled it wrong and busted it. I replaced theparts and he paid for them.
More recently, he was working on remodeling his father-in-laws home. (This is actually my next door neighbor) He asked to borrow my utility trailer to haul the demolition refuse. I say OK. The trailer comes home with the hitch head all jacked up where someone jack-knifed the trailer and just kept on shoving until it twisted the hitch head all up. The neighbor tried to straighten it out, but it didn't work. So today I go to Tractor Supply and buy a new hitch head. Come home and grind/sawzall the old one off... 2 hours later... Here I am sweating like a whore on dollar day.
I'm giving the Mexican the $45 bill too.
Grrrrrr.

I still remember dad telling me: "Never a borrower or lender be." years later I asked him where he heard such a wise saying. He told me "From the arabic man at work, I think it is from the Qur'an. "
Then again I remember dad telling me: F**k me once your fault, F**k me twice my fault. I think he heard that saying at the local bar. The qur'an does not reference that saying.
I think both are good advise in this situation.
