I agree Johnny
I'll practice at 30, but I would sure try my hardest to get a closer shot.
You get one out there at 30 yards that won't come any closer, it's mighty tempting though. While it sounds like a good idea at the time, I think most hunters will regret taking that shot (myself included).

When I could draw a bow (before I got my neck broke) I limited myself to 25 yard shots. I too most likely would've been tempted to shoot farther @ a BIG one, I'm only human.

I just found another forum yesterday (archerytalk.com), and asking about the same question. I was just surprised with some of the answers.... Let me guess: the vast majority over there can have all 5 arrows touching at 70 yards. Yeah it's amazing what the combination of Matthews bows and lies will do. Yes i have a distant relative that is a hoyt fan and according to him 70 yards would be an easy shot for him. I don't like him anyway but not for his ability or lying skills. he just an ass. At least he does not like Matthew's bows. I have the traditional compound so to speak. I have the overdrawn feature and only 60% break off It was a good bow in 1995/1996 but according to many it is not worth hunting with cause it does not use carbon fiber arrow/mech broadheads and go 300 FPS. I shoot it better cause of the brace height than I do the fast ones and I am not spending the money on a new one. This one has a weird insurance policy I bought with it that PSE will replace everything for my life including the string to the person who purchased the bow only not transferable. . I just have to take it to a PSE Dealer for repair. I get it tuned when I need it and it just cost a little money for labor and all the parts are free. At some time now If a cam goes bad I bet I get a new bow from PSE. I have all that paperwork in a file and had to produce it when the local guy I bought it from passed away. The new PSE shop did not want to honor it at first but they had to. They wanted to sell me a new PSE. ....... Still I would not shoot much over 30 on deer here because I don't want to wound one bad. My little terrier and I track/blood trail at least one badly shot deer a year and I have seen some real bad shots that required more tracking than I care to do. If you have any dog I can tell you how I trained this one to blood-trail. I think anything can do it the little west highland loves it and chews up the deers tail to the bone when he finds the deer.

I'm shocked he's not a mathews fan. We have a relativly new law that lets us use a dog for tracking a deer. I think you have to call the game warden and go in without a gun/bow.

In INdiana the dog must be on a leash. I use a 30 footer that we used to train him. On my uncles land the leash is not used.
