I'm considering making a change of baits My patience has just about had it with chicken liver turning to goo and never staying on the hook (tried pantyhose but don't like that either [we'll see how that gets interpreted] ) But nonetheless, it's still very effective.
Anyone use dipbaits with success - the kind where you put the rubber noodle in the jar???
1. Are all the brands pretty much the same or is there one you can recommend (national brand prefered that could be bought at walmart, bass pro, or cabelas)
2. How long does the bait stay on the tube? In other words, how long do you leave it sit before you reel it in and "reload it"

Two I would not consider Catfishing without are Bowkers and any of the Cat Tracker baits. There's another really good one made in Boneparte, Iowa, near the Missouri Border on the des Moines River(Name escapes me right now) but all 3 are available at Walmart. They stay for quite a while and are easy to work with.

You like cheese base or blood base formula?

I've always had the best luck with Cheese based dips. One of my favorites though is the CatTracker Shrimp bait(I think it's cheese base). I would usually go with Cut Shad early and as it get hotter go to Dip Baits. Livers are always a good standby too, but as you say they can be awkward to work with. I would take several different baits and try them all till I see what works. One thing that's always reliable is to set aside one beer for bait and dip worms in it( I Would not drink the beer that I dipped worms in), It has proven in several tests to catch 7-1 worms dipped in beer/worms straight. This ain't no joke!

Do you suppose dippin' those worms in the rotgut that Red drinks would work? ;D ;D Or do you have to use a real beer? ;D ;D

I do believe Schlitz, Old Milwalkie, and Pabst are REAL BEER Everytime I buy the expensive beers I end up throwing them out - Sam Adams - Killians - that godawefull Guiness - and the latest I've tried Fosters where their motto is "Fosters, Australian for water buffalo piss". Worst buck eighty I ever spent on a can of beer. Could of bought two Natural Lights for that price

Since my Daddy-in-Law only drank Old Mill after Schlitz changed their formula, I don't think those Cats are picky. And We did use it for bait as well as human consumption.

I bought a jar of Sonnys the other day at walmart.
I remembered seeing a guy on the Mississippi last summer catching quite a few on it.

I think thats the one that is made in Bonaparte Iowa on the Des Moines River just above the mouth where it dumps into the Mississippi. It's a real good one too!

I forget what was on the front.
It was in a clear pastic jar with a white label and lid about half filled. I know it was made in Iowa
