well this could go in either forum, we have about 25 kids and 10 adults headed out for a weekend of camping and fishing on one of the scout master's farms. this will be a fun weekend for the scouts, no set agenda, just fishing, cooking, and exploring. we actualy should have decent weather for it too. only down side is with all the rain we have had the pond is really really full and fishing will be hard. they caught some really nice fish last year in the same pond, with a couple of 3lb+ bass and a 5lb catfish to boot. for a bunch of kids, that was nice fish as some of these kids had never caught anything bigger than a small blue gill before. (some of the dads too) anyway you all have fun this weekend, i know we will.

I think those farm ponds will have better fishing than you think. I've been doing real good on some high muddy ponds this year.
Stick to the darkest plastic worms you have (black with a chartruse tail --- cough cough) and tell the kids to fish it slow.

just a quick recap of the weekend. weather couldn't have been better, we had mid 40's fri night/sat morning and i slept like a baby. fishing was tough because the water was way up and this tall weed bed that would have normaly been behind you as you fished was now in the water being a pain in the ass to all that tried to cast over it. still fish were caught and several nice ones to boot. the largest was a bass a tad over 5lb caught by one of the scout masters, several kids caught bass in the 1 1/2 lb range and all caught some nice size bluegills. one in particular could not be held by the scoutmaster as his hand coud not get all around it. that thing went way over 1lb probably 1 1/2lb. we fried chicken and some fish sat night and i made a dutch over full of my smoked pork-n-beans. (i brought my smoker along). sun morning (4:00 ish) we heard a couple owls go off then it sounded like 4 or 5 and it sounded like they were fighting or something. sure wish i could have seen what was going on with that one as i'm sure it was interesting. had a whole pack of coyotes go off shortly after the owls and that did send one kid into a panic, but i just laid there and let someone else handle it. every year you get one or two new scouts that have a hard time sleeping out doors and this year aint any differant. anyway a great time was had by all.

i keep reminding myself that it's all for the kids. sometimes i wanna hold that kid under water until the bubbles stop, but all in all we're just trying to make a differance.
