My once faithful S-10 pickup has give up the Ghost. Truly sad cause I had 198,000 miles on it and it was no where near worn out? Cracked a head and Tried every salvage yard in the state and no one has a replacement. A Rebuild would cost $450, a bit stiff when I don't know what would go next. Seems the 96 2.2 motor is an entity unto itself, and only a 96 S-10,S-15 or Isusu Hombre will fit. Looks like I'm going to have to knock it in the head.
Now to see what can be done for the 96 S-10 Blazer?

;D ;DScott Thanks for that Link!
Looks like the local Salvage yards are lying through their teeth. I can get the 2.2 head and 92-97 fit, from these guys. Also if I find I need a head for the Blazer it's $141.00, diagnostics show a miss on #2 cylinder and Bailey said he heard a pop while filling it with anti-freeze.. Thanks again!

At 198 K it is just getting broken in. Remember felpro gaskets are also worth the extra penny in case you have to take off the head again.

A used cyl head generally came from a bad engine...most of the time the only guarantee is that the CAN be rebuilt! Course, you in crease the compression you gonna blow the bottom half....I'd go ahead and do rings/bearings and seals.Just my 2 centavos worth! You won't know ring and bearing sizes till some one puts a mike/inside caliper to it. Well the head, gaskets and bolts are on the way. Longknife you have a point. Will see what happens. The motor was tight and never burned a drop of oil in 3000 miles between changes so I'm going to chance it. I need to get another year out of this one. And in truth if it burned a quart or two a month ( I average around 1500 miles per month) I could live with that. Have you ever considered how many quarts of oil it take to make one monthly payment? let alone a years payments?

Have you ever considered how many quarts of oil it take to make one monthly payment? let alone a years payments? That makes me laugh... I have had oil leakers that NEVER needed oil changes.... it was always looking NEW because it was in constant rotation. My nephew had an old motorcycle that leaked oil so bad... someone rigged a soda can as a drip catcher, so every time you stopped you could dump the oil back into it! Man... I do not miss the days of driving oil leakers. What made the head go in the first place? Any idea? Just wondering if the head issue was cause or symptom. Jabba

It seems to be a design flaw? Every Salvage yard I talked to said the ones they had were cracked and the guy at Cylinder Head Express called it a styrofoam casting. Something he said was not the case with this new one.
