Since around 2003, we have had rules regarding politics on the two boards we have been on. By taking several polls over the years, the vast magority of our members do not wish to have politics on the site. Prolonged exposure to these sensitive topics has led to arguements in the past (even on topics having nothing to do with politics).
Under our initial rules on this Proboards forum, no general politics were allowed (though the rule was lenient if there was no problem). However, gun related and anti-hunting were allowed to be discussed.
Under the rules of the old Vbulletin forum under Don Goins, no general politics were open for discussion after the abolishment of the poltical forum. Furthermore, on the old site, gun related topics could not be open for replies. They could be posted in form of news statements only --- no opinions by the original poster on the forums and no replies at all.
The thread would be automatically locked as soon as possible by the moderator to prevent replies.
The past month we have seen a number of political threads. One thread every blue moon was alright. Two, three, four, five, etc is just too many. There has been many participants, myself included. There's no punishment, no singling people out, and no hard feelings - I don't care about that, we're all starting over.
I suspect the upcomming political season has triggered this, and I'm sure it won't get any better as we still have 10 months to go.
From now on, we are reverting back to the rules of the old forum. We will enforce the new rules in a strict but practical manner.
We will simply edit or delete any violation. We take nothing personal, and I hope you feel the same way. We do not wish to be doing this on an ongoing basis for the same individuals though.
We never had complaints regarding these rules on the old forum. We had very good cooperation by members even the night of the 2004 election.
We expect the same cooperation here as well.
There are plenty of other sites, political forums and hunting forums in which you can go to for political discussion.
We will not have this forum unfriendly, hardnosed, ranting, and rundown like several other forums out there who allow the above topics to be discussed.
These rules are in place to make every member feel welcome.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact myself, klsm54, or the moderator of the forum you wish to post in.
Thank you all in advance for your cooperation in making this site successful.

- No politics of any kind are to be on the board. (elections, taxes, war, terrorism, etc.) Economics is a different story provided it does not turn political.
Just because key words are in a thread (elections, taxes, etc), that doesn't necissarily mean they are political in nature.
If someone wants to start a thread "How are you going to spend your income tax rebates?" --- well that's fine provided replies do not turn off subject. - Firearm and hunting related politics will be allowed in the form of news briefs or summaries. There should be no opinions by the original poster. There should be no replies by members. To prevent this, the moderator will lock the thread as soon as possible. Just because a thread remains open at the time does not mean it should be responded to. The reader (member) will determine for himself if the article warants further action (such as contacting government representatives).
This is a perfect example of what is acceptable

This is a perfect example of what we will not permit any longer

It would violate the new policy because of the bold written by myself as well as all of the replies. The original news content in the original post would be acceptable.
While news briefs are allowed, we do not wish to be flooded with them. Let's let these numbers be conservative because they were never a routine part of the site anyway. - Threads regarding which firearms would be acceptable for self defense purposes will continue to be allowed.
