Bailey my son, has a deer head he burried and has down to bone. He wants to do a Bleached Skull mount. What would he use to bleach the skull?

Sunshine works, but may be a little slow for him. I never heard of burying a skull. That probably works great. I have seen people take the skull and hang it high enough where dogs and such will not carry it off. I think that clorox or similar bleach would work if he wants it done asap. I understand that skull mounts are the preferred method for Europeans.

Yes Red he burried it in the back yard an let the grubs and whatnot clean off all flesh and hide. Now it is bone colored. He wants it bleached white. Someone told me a day of soaking Hydrogen Peroxide in the sun would do it?

How ya doin' Jim ~ Sorry for the delay...Deer season is in, & has kept me busy ;D . Make sure ALL flesh is removed. Meat & membrane alike. Rinse all of the dirt off with your hose. If there is any left on there, it won't hurt it to scrub it off with an old tooth brush. You may have to squirt water up in the vertabra opening at the base of the skull to assure all the dirt is out from inside the skull cavities as well since it was buried. Baquacil shock Proxide - 27% would be plenty to bleach it. I have a right up on skull bleachin' under " WEATHERED DEER SKULL " that should get ya threw. Check out link below. If you have any questions on it that I didn't answer there, let me know & I'll get ya squared away. huntingfirearms.proboards59.com/index.cgi?board=art&action=display&thread=1129131483

Not to worry Stumpy! The kid thinks he has more important things to do right now. He called me at work to bring him a box of 3 1/2" #2 Steel home so he could hunt geese in the morning. He probably won't get to this till the peroxide freezes?
