My favorite.
The base recipe.
a head of cabbage cored and cut up. 32 oz jar of Sour Kraut. 1 can of butter beans mashed, 1 stick of butter, salt and pepper. Cover the entire mess with water and boil it til the cabbage is how you like to eat it. Now add powdered mashed potatoes to thicken up the mixture some. Basically adjust this to where you think it should be. I like mine a little bit runny still. I garnish with a little extra butter and salt and pepper to taste.
That is the very basic recipe. Some improvements that I have made over the years.
Onions Mushrooms Cream of Mushroom Soup from a can. Sausage (or Ham)
You can not make a small pot of kapusta. This is my favorite soup, it's fairly cheap and is really good.
Let me know if you try it and like it. I take a giant stock pot to camp for deer season and Turkey season and it's always gone right away.

This sounds like a keeper to me. I'll have to give it a try.... Along the same lines, here is a good old Irish recipe that makes good use of potatoes and Cabbage. Colcannon3 pounds potatoes, scrubbed 2 sticks butter 1 1/4 cups hot milk Freshly ground black pepper 1 head cabbage, cored and finely shredded 1 (1-pound) piece ham or bacon, cooked the day before 4 scallions, finely chopped Chopped parsley leaves, for garnish
Steam the potatoes in their skins for 30 minutes. Peel them using a knife and fork. Chop with a knife before mashing. Mash thoroughly to remove all the lumps. Add 1 stick of butter in pieces. Gradually add hot milk, stirring all the time. Season with a few grinds of black pepper. Boil the cabbage in unsalted water until it turns a darker color. Add 2 tablespoons butter to tenderize it. Cover with lid for 2 minutes. Drain thoroughly before returning it to the pan. Chop into small pieces.
Put the ham in a large saucepan and cover with water. Bring to the boil and simmer for 45 minutes until tender. Drain. Remove any fat and chop into small pieces.
Add cabbage, scallions, and ham to mashed potatoes, stirring them in gently. Serve in individual soup plates. Make an indentation on the top by swirling a wooden spoon. Put 1 tablespoon of butter into each indentation. Sprinkle with parsley.

;D :(There is NO WAY I could eat either of these and go huntingf cause the game would smell me for miles!!!!! However..........if the office people ever pissed me off this would be a good payback!!!!!! ;D ;D BTW Both recipes sound good!!

Now on that resipi D*D You just mite be able to put that hose in the back of your pants & plug the other end to your injecter pump on your new red rose and farm for free!! But then you will be takeing a chance if that big tractor hits a tough spot it may suck you into a rasin.

No offense guys, but what does cooking this concoction do for cooking odors in your kitchen? Are there any requests that you pack up and move to a different part of the world? My mother used to cook up some pretty wild stuff, much of it involving cabbage. Tasted great, but drew some strange comments from the neighbors. Best wishes.

I don't think this has offensive odor at all. Smells a little like sourkraut, but that's not BAD. And certainly not something the neighbors would smell.
At least for me, and anyone I have fed it to, it is not to gassy either. Now if you eat A LOT of it, it will make you crap like a goose. But it doesn't give you the gas much. Only one can of butter beans in a giant POT of soup.
If cabbage gasses you up... then maybe this will, but it does not to my experience.

I'm going to change the resipe just a little, !st I'm going to boil a Brisket then cook your soup in that water? I'm thinking this will work good.

OK took out the corn beef Brisket & the Cabbage,sour kraut, beans. butter, sat & pepper are in and cooking, Guess I'll see jabba if anyone smells it and stops in???
