My back glass of my ranger has been leaking for a couple years all the way accross and I keep on putting clean tape on the outside seal and it's been working pretty good. I put a fresh strip on it last week again and thought it would last till this summer before the tape was dried and cracked. And as many of you in the country know, we had a huge storm come by and this morning everything was soaked. The back, the ceiling, the seats, the floors. I've got all of my paperwork that was in the little binder was in the back and it was soaked. All of the penciled in records of oil changes, etc was soaked. Everything but the title - which was in the house. 80,000 miles & 6 1/2 years old --- I'm really thinking about getting a new truck. This is going to be at least 200 dollars (assuming they can just reseal the glass and the baseboards don't crumble). This has the potential to be very expensive just to fix the leak. This thing is going to be nickel and diming me from now on everytime I turn.

I bought my last new car in 1974, and have not bought anything with less than 80,000 on it since. My S-10 has 177,000 on it now and I expect it to go a couple more years at least. Of course if you just want a new truck go for it! Somebody is going to by your worn out truck and run it into the ground. My son works for a Hog operation and drives a Ranger 4X4 for a work truck and let me tell you they abuse the thing. Monday he had a new back glass replaced at a salvage yard for $75.00. Seems he snapped a chain dragging something and took it out? He knew better but was not going to stop till it was clear of the mud. ;D

Well it really comes down to the fact that it shouldn't of leaked at 4 years old. That's the truck's fault. Me being cheap and lazy, well that's just secondary

Red, clear silicon will fix just about any leak you have. but in the mean time i would drill a couple of holes in the floor just to be safe.

SHUT UP AND GET YOUR DRILL OUT AND PUT IN SOME HOLES! Ha! My late father-in law was known to have a drink now and again. And when He got together with Tom Goin anything could happen. They went on a tear one time in Tom's new Ford Fairlane. Happened on a stock car track, so Tom raced it that night, rolled it and broke out the windshield. Coming home in the rain it filled up with water so they took a .22 and shot holes in the floorboards to let the water out. A new take on the three Stooges"Water Letter Outter".

Red, Goo Gone will get all the old tape yuck off. and they'll replace the glass for you on site for that $200 I am sure. They do windshields ALL the time for $200. Of course this will require that you violate at least 2 of your core fundamental tenents. Be cheap, and be lazy.
But, think about this... a new truck will cost you dollars every month, instead of nickels and dimes.
I bought my 2001 S-10 with 107K on the clock. It's bugging me a little too. It's got a chronic service enging light. (It needs the air injection pump replaced). ANd it's anti-Lock brake controller is bad, and I get brake and ABS lights almost all the time too. But, I suffer from the same issues you have sometimes, that's lazy and cheap.
It drives JUST fine.

My brother use to have a datsun like your ranger red. His was a simple problem to fix. He just knocked a hole in the floor thru the rust which had accumulated from the windows being down in the rain all the time and let it drain. Kind of disconserting to watch the highway go by under your feet but if you didn't like it he had a piece of plywood he could cover that up with if needed. Of course the cab mounts rusted off and the cab fell down but he put a 4X4 under it and made new bolt mounts for it and it stayed up just fine after that. He had over 300K on it when he finally gave up on keeping it running and made a 2 wheel trailer out of it. ;D Drove that pickup for close to 15 years and it didn't owe him a dime.

I figured out what the problem was. I put the new tape on about 1/8" below the old tape. So the cracks in the old tape allowed the water to flow right in. Got it fixed now though as the tape is about 1/8" above the old line.
No truck payment every month is nice - I'll give you that. I'd probably pay cash on a new one if financing was over 5%
There's one guy about 30 miles away that can fix the seal without taking out the headliner. He wants about 200.
Everyone else wants to take the headliner off and I'm afraid it will crumble.

guy on gravois (affton auto top or gravois auto top?) will do a headliner for under 70.00 or so, he may even do a cheaper jop on the window. i'll check with my brother.

As long as the headliner doesn't need to come off, it doesn't need to be replaced. It might be 100% fine but it's only going to get wet a x number of times before it rots. Won't tell until it comes off. But if I can get the guy in Troy to take care of it without any risk, that's the thing to do.
He'd replace the headliner for 70? Sounds pretty cheap.
