Of late I have been thinking of buying a 4-wheeler to use for fishing and hunting as with the price of gas its cheaper to run around the hills with a 4 wheeler than it is a 4WD vehicle. The two that I'm familiar with are the Yamaha 600 and the Polaris 500 Sportsman. I have rode both at altitudes of 12,000 feet and down to 1,000 feet and both had plenty of power although the Yamaha seemed to have a lot more torque by far. Both would handle the weight of an Elk or deer without a problem and both can haul my fishing equipment without a problem also. I doubt that I would wear either of them out over a short period of time as I'm not a speed demon and actually would under work both models except when hauling something like an elk with one. So question is, if you were to buy one which one would you look the hardest at or don't it make any differance as both of them are good.

Reasons why I am NOT looking for an ATV...
With the cost of gas!!! It's just something else to pull behing my 4 wheel drive I NEED the exercise. Until Nebraska licenses them they have to be hauled everywhere. A good ATV cost what I paid for my last car. More folks need to walk in to hunt and fish its suppose to be exercise. Isn't this what we got the horses for???

I agree with you Two Moons! I wonder what advantage the four wheelers have over a 50'sor 60'sJeep CJ series vehicles? The used Jeeps are a lot cheaper (PR you can the concept can't you?) When I hunt I walk a lot. It is the best place in the world for exercise in my opinion.

I have one I use instead of my pickup. For fencing and other things in the pasture/ fields. However I after researching them & TRYING them found the the best for me was a Kawasaki. Of course I got a camo one.

A few thousands bucks to buy a ATV???
That would buy a whole bunch of gas for driving around the farm. And you have a four wheel drive truck that (if driven with you head) can take you pretty far off road.

Oh yea Red and #3) As Bill,2M's, and Bounce can & will tell ya I can take a pickup as far if not farther than most people around here if I want ta, so it's not a question of getting to where I want to. But I also had a jeep and tired of it. And I still got the horses for round-up time.
