Trying to sell my Wrangler and thinking about buying a crew cab S-10.
I have had 3 S-10's over the years and have been very happy with them.
Does anyone have any opinions?
I'll get one with the 4.3 liter vortec and 4x4 for sure.

I think it's a good choice Jabba. A buddy of mine is on his second S-10, had the first one for 14 or 15 years, and it was with the little V-6. The one he has now with the 4.3L ought to last him darned near forever... ;D

I have a 2000 S-10 4-door 4x4 Blazer with the 4.3. I put on a 2" body lift and run 31X10.50 BFG's on it. It stll has a little pep to it. We put about 50k miles on it in 2 1/2 years with only two problems. The fuel pump went out and a brake light control switch went out. Only the brake light on the roof would work. Both were replaced under warranty due to a service bulletin.

Well it`s been about a year ago I bought a 96 S-10 extended cab. I really like it and would buy another. Funny story, I called a friend who sells for a Ford Dealership. I told him I was looking for a small pickup, extended cab, manual transmition and anything but a Chevy. He calls me back and said you need to look at this chevy. I bought the Chevy, it had a #20 in the back window and if Tony Stewart wins the Championship, I`m taking credit for it.

I tell you what, the sales people at the dealerships are hurting.
I know a guy who's a family friend and he said he's never seen it that bad. In one case a salesman was the son of the owner - the young man quit and went to work for another ford dealership in another location. Talk about balls...

I had an '84 GMC S-15 Sierra 4x4 regular cab with the long bed which I got in 1990. I nursed it along for 10 yrs. and was glad to be rid of it. Typical of GM products, rust-out was a problem. I had to have the rocker panels, quarter panels, etc. replaced or patched about every other year. I had to replace all the rubber bumpers that cushioned the body from the frame. Every time I turned around there was something wrong with it. Maybe the new ones are better but I'll never have another one. I will have to say though that it did do a fairly decent job off-road.

Well, I sold my Wrangler on Friday.
I did in fact find a crew cab S-10 to buy.
It's an '01 model with fairly high miles. 107K. It's black, in very good shape, immaculately clean inside and out and has a fiberglass toneau cover for the bed. I don't love the black part... but I'll live with it.
Best part... $7300 which is about $600 less than wholesale, even with the deduction for the high mileage. So I traded it for my Jeep and put $2K in my pocket. I think I like it. We'll see in a year or so.

Ya it finally got back down to $2.13 here. I keep thinking that I should downsize and get something that gets better milage. Worst part of it is, I get about 20 mpg if I drive 65 or under. I'm wondering how much better I would get if I downsize. If I turn my Expidition with a 5.4 into an Explorer with a 4.6 is that going to do much good. Maybe 2 or 3 mpg but the loss of space is what is going to hurt. Maybe I will take my 95 Ford and trade it in for something smaller instead and keep the Expo. My son drives a 2003 Jeep Liberty and has about 40K on it since he bought it new. Last night he turned the corner and the front ball joint let loose and the whole front wheel came off and he went sliding across the street. Seems so far the only damage was in the axel and wheel and tire and ball joint and Jeep is going to replace all that under warranty but still. And his Jeep liberty only gets about 14 city and 21 highway and is about half the size of my Expo. So does downsizing help all that much???

Bill downsizing may not make that much difference. I have a 96 S-10 ext cab with 4 cyl and 2 wd. If I drive 70 it runs around 23 MPG. But you hit on something, If I drive 60 and under it runs around 28 mpg. I know because twice this week I have never got over 50 and a normal 35 min commute has taken an hour & 15 minutes. Dang I`m sick of winter already.
