Laid up for 4 months, started tonight to get back in hunting shape. Started with a mile walk and setups/push ups......just curious what some of the rest of you do? Riding a key board has taken a toll...LOL Dan

First thing I want to do is start by lifting weights. Probably about 12 oz. at a time... a beer can comes in handy for that and comes to mind pretty fast. ;D

Gila beat me to the 12oz curls comment. I've been meaning to join the gym again since...july... never did get around to doing it ;D Here in missouri you don't have to walk very far. Everyone on public land tends to deer hunt within 1/4 mile of the truck because there are so many access areas. And on private land no one would even think about walking 1/4 mile - more like 100 yards. Turkey hunting is very much the same way. There's so many people that most try to stay in the same spot (same area) all morning. It does no good to walk 1/2 mile back because you'll run into the other parking lot Bird and rabbit hunting --- totally different. That's ussually hell on people because you get tangled in the brush. And when you're 5'9'', it's even harder compared to someone who's 6'2''.

Dr tells me I need to be walking 45-60 minutes a day to get my heart back to normal. When the streets and sidewalks get to the point I don't need Ice Skates, I will. Don't belong to a gym, but since this towns built on the ridge overlooking the river it will be no problem finding inclines to walk up.

Never new why but when I would go to the Black Hill's on the motorcycle I allways felt better their than hear, specialy when & after drinking? I think that was allways around 5000 ft. My harley with it comuterized injection gets 48 miles a gal. hear at 1400 ft and over 60 miles a gal. in the Hills. So I don't think 5000ft is all that bad.

I walk, but not so much in the winter. Same as Jim- when I don't need ice skates. So, I end up taking most of the winter off, and starting up again in about another month.

Until my feet went to hell around thanksgiving I was walking close to 4 miles a day. Two in the morning and two at night. Ended up with heel spurs and bad swelling on the back of the heel. Last week the foot doctor put me on Prednazone (sp?) to get rid of the inflammation enough to tell if I needed my feet operated on. Don't want that as it means 3 week on crutches, 3 weeks in a cast, and 4 weeks off my feet just letting them heal. Came off the Prednazone and I think every bone in my body hurt. Every joint. Every muscle. Hate that stuff but my heel doesn't hurt anymore Living at 4,500' sure don't hurt a thing when it comes to altitudes. I'm good to about 9,000 and even then as long as I don't try to run I am good to 10,000' after that I don't go anywhere fast. 12,000 is just a shuffel. ;D

The mountains never seemed to bother me.. And I smoked 2-3 packs a day back then. To tell you the truth I think my breathing went to he$$ when I quit smoking!!

I have a full time construction job, 2 kids (3 and 8 year old girls) a wife with a hunny do list and neighbors, in laws, and family that always call me to do little things for them.
I hunt to get away from all that and set in a tree and read a good book.
Seems all those little things i do everyday keep me pretty good shape as i will stalk for miles in the southern Indiana hills and only get tired dragging out deer.
take up river fishing in waders. Walk against the current and you'll get a good fun workout. Maybe even a stringer of fish.
