planning and organizing an ELK hunt amoung a bunch of guys that like to hunt together is a total P.I.T.A. thats made more difficult by draw licensing
does anyone else think that over the counter licences are a good thing and limited draw licences where you need to send in all your money months ahead of time and wait to see if you draw is a total P.I.T.A.
youe would think modern computers were totally unable to sort this stuff out quickly!!!!!
I bought deer and ELK licences OVER THE COUNTER for many years in COLORADO, no problems and I saw only moderate pressure on the game WHERE I HUNTED. now for the last few years colorado has a draw and point system,(I personally thinks $%^& )that makes it difficult to get some guys I used to hunt regularly with to commit that much money up front with no real garauntee, they get anything, and bye the time we find out its too late to enter other state draws, so your choice is spend two to three times as much entering several state draws , with the chance of pulling more than one state or no states, knowing if that happends you can,t get your money back on states you might not hunt, or waiting and finding out at the last minute that you may not draw, still making planning a total P.I.T.A.
YEAH! I know its how the states soak the OUT.OF.STATE.HUNTERS, getting interest , on your money while THEY hold it for months, telling YOU its keeping the pressure low and the QUALITY high on the hunts, but theres zero reason they cold not charge the same or 5% more and hold the draws in all states at the same january-time,frame, notify the winners electronically. and allow those guys that choose to not pick up thier licences to turn them back in for an 90% refund in feb. time frame then sell each states left over licences over the counter on a first come first get system, for the orriginal price, making planning a hunt and getting a licence a done deal by late feb.
