Question - where would you put a 15ft ladder for bowhunting?
1. Good sized tree (20" diameter) in the middle of a 80 yard timber funnel that offers a 10-15 yard shot. Problem - Deer move from the North and South both ways. West wind blows my scent right on the trail. North or South wind hurts depending on which direction the deer happen to come - a coin toss.
2. Good sized tree (20" diameter) on the edge of a 80 yard timber funnel that offers a 10-15 yard shot. Only wind that hurts is NE, SE, or E Problem - A. you have to walk accross the deer trail to get to the stand. B. They can skyline you pretty easy
What do you think??? these are the only options.

I'd locate where the bedding areas (low land - conifers) gives way to the hardwoods (upland- feeding - deciduous trees). You can usually find the paths where the deer go from one to the other. Be carefl of wind directions though. Best wishes.

I'm feeling really good about this spot as the deer used it last year but I kept fouling things up. This year's different. I put some " apple buck jam" on this log on the trail and put a half a block of apple/salt block out. If it won't draw in the deer, I'm sure it will draw in the hornets ;D I had the jug in my truck and I opened the door the next day and now the truck smells like apple I also took the branchs I cut and duct taped them to my ladder stand
