well after a ton of digging i found my owners manual. it looks like i'll be using the mod. choke heck we probably wont see a thing, just smoke cigars and play cards at the end of the day.

Jim, it depends on where I'm hunting what choke I use... I have a place on a private pond that is very tight... there's trees all around it and the shots are within 30 yards.. most of them are closer then that... I'll use an Improved Cylinder choke ... most of the other times I use my Modified... When I shoot steel, I use one choke more open then I would normally use if I'm shooting lead...

Hunting over decoys and with shots within 40 yds I use IC only. Matter or fact its all I use anymore wether its ducks or geese and wether its pass shooting or decoying. Over decoys is my favorite for ducks and on that I use #6 heavy shot. The stuff is awsome. On pass shooting geese I use IC and T shot from Dead coyote. That stuff is great on long pass shots but you really have to work on your leads.

Bill, i'm under the impression that the heavy shot patterns a lot better than steel does. that being said do you think i would be handicapping myself by useing the two chokes i listed? i could put another imp. cyl choke into it but i felt i wouldn't get the pattern i wanted on a tad further shot. i have so little experiance with steel shot (25 yrs ago) that i'm open to suggestions. i guess i can always start with the set up and if we get into ducks and i start ripping them up with my second shot i'll just pull the choke and step it down one. you know a common sence thing, but then again that might be asking to much of myself. ;D

My brother shoots waterfowl a lot. Granted they use pumps, but everyone he goes with uses modified choke.

I use my 1100 most of the time waterfowl hunting... I've used my wife's Super Nova a time or two.. but I find for shots over decoys, my modified choke does the job...
One thing I have noticed though is that the cost of these new "non-toxic shot" shells are astronomical... those Dead Coyote "T" shot cost over $3 EACH... I love duck and goose hunting but on the average I'll shoot 2 shots to kill one duck ... That's $6 a duck ... I'm tempted to try them some day... The new Federal "Black Cloud" shotshells are supposed to be the hottest thing out there right now ... along with Heavy shot... but again the cost is high...
I like the tight patterns my modified choke throws using plain old steel... I have tried "loosening" up my pattern but then using plain old steel looses some of its punch...

Jim... if I had a dollar for every time I went hunting and didn't shoot, I could probably buy that Bennelli Super Black Eagle II, I want... ;D
