Sometimes I think that we humans can be awfully dumb, at least this one can be. Every year on my first couple of trips to the range I see thousands of ducks, recently back from their northern migration, going out to feed in nearby fields. Yet, I rarely see flocks of geese. I suspect they precede ducks by quite a bit, but it never dawns on me to question why I don't see more geese. Who wants to inform old dummy on this? I do see some geese in the fields near the road. I'm doubtful geese would normally venture to be that close. They're quite vunerable. I'm thinking it's simply a case of timing. The ducks appear to know enough to stay on the back fields, well away from us. Maybe I just need a good book dealing with the migration patterns of each. Best wishes.
