Gotta agree. I always said that IF I was to have anything in my house that was stuffed besides me it would be a Wood Duck. Probably the prettiest duck in existance.

I used to go after wood duck as a sidebar to a squirrel hunt. One of my favorite locations had a stream running through it. A worn path paralleled the stream, and I would walk the path and every so often sneak to the streams edge near a bend where surprisingly I'd often be able to sneak up on a woodie. For some strange reason I often felt guilty about popping one. They're such beautiful birds, but usually great eating. Conflict, conflict! Best wishes.

The moment of regret. I feel that often when the dog drops a bird in my hand. I don't necessarily regret the killing of the bird because I know we will use him here for a meal and usually a few trout flies. Sometimes it is just a humbling feeling.

Hello Bubba,
It sounds like you had a great time with the different types of hunting and the cameraderie as well. I suspect you might make this an annual event. It seems well worth it. Sorry you have to travel so far. Best wishes.
