Sounds like my hunting Sat. Wind and Rain and below freezing. Lay in Mud all morning. Never did get cold though as the ducks were dropping in faster than I could keep track of as they were moving down from up North. The Teal were all migrating and with me liking Teal I picked and chose and got my limit. The last waterfowl report advised that all the Northern Ducks and Geese had begun the migration south and had gotten on the jetstream and blew on thru and had settled on a line from NE Colorado to central Illinoise except that part of them had blew on thru to Texas and other sothern states. With me being only about 40 miles from where they gather in NE Colorado it looks like its going to be a good year for ME.

Was in Desoto and Prairie Du Chien today. Lotsa ducks on the Mississippi just south of Ferryville. Mostly whistlers and bufflehead but lotsa greenheads and chisel bills too. Canvasback season is almost over and they just finally arrived! imagine that!

Didn't get any pics Donnie. I can always go out and dump out the garbage can and take pics of the left overs if thats that you really want to see. Julie went out yesterday to check the mail and the wind had blown the garbage can over and there were little duck carcases all over the yard. Boy did I catch hell LOL. Should of gotten a pic of that. We have a sizable population of resident ducks in Toronto. People go to the recreational islands near the foot of the city all summer and fall. Unfortunately many of the ducks look for handouts and no longer migrate south. I say unfortunately because many of the ducks die from the cold by not migrating. We've kind of screwed up their natural instincts to bail out when the weather turns. I used to take a ferry to get out to these islands in the winter. It was a great place to teach my boy to skate. In the process we noticed the ducks still follow the ice breaking ferries across Lake Ontario. They're looking for their handouts and are a riot to watch. A duck landing on a frozen body of water will bring tears of laughter to your eyes. It takes them quite a ways to successfully stop, and once stopped the dummies make no effort to move out of the way. The ducks coming in behind the first ones will also slide quite a ways, right into the first group. Man they get bowled over like bowling pins and go every which way imaginable. They're such graceful animals for most of the year, but in winter it's a different story. They don't seem to be able to distinguish the ice from the open water. On the more seripus side I think the city workers found about 20,000 dead ones one Spring. I wish people simply would stop feeding them. Maybe they'd all start migrating again. Best wishes.
