I was squirrel hunting this morning but decided to drive past the 3 designated dove fields to see what was going on. I had a good laugh ;D Each field (probably 20-30 acres) had OVER 100 cars along side of the road. The parking for the fields started about a quartermile on each side of the road. I drove by about 20 minutes after sunrise and there was still people dicking around by their car. You look in the field and you can see people sitting on coolers right in the middle of the brushhogged field. People are standing in the open right next to sunflowers (rather than be sitting in the brush). People were spread about 20 yards apart accross the entire field. People were facing eachother, facing the road, etc. The game warden was standing in the parking lot trying supervising the whole ordeal. And then of course what's an overcrowded dove hunt without dogs ? Everyone had to bring their dog And of course 90% of dogs can't listen or aren't trained. So dogs would go after other people's dead birds. For the first two hours there was nothing but shooting and shooting and shooting and shooting. You could tell a dove flew into the field and there was about 20 shots all at the same time I would estimate 1000 people hunting 100 acres. WHAT A FREAKING MESS !!! They need to make that a drawing hunt.

.....What would get into a guys head that would make him want to subject himself to a mess like that. I would rather watch figure skating on TV than spend any time in that mess. Surely there is someplace less crowded....

* Male figure skating
I watch woman's all the time ;D
This was the big (one of the big. most popular anyways) St. Louis urban conservation area. 7000 acres and about 40 lakes.
You can drive out about 1 - 1 1/2 hours and find a spot that probably only had 5 or 6 cars in the parking lot. But you'll be hunting over brushhogged brush.
