Before 1993 there used to be quite a few pheasants in the Mississippi river bottoms in the St. Louis area. The county I live in used to shoot quite a few of them. We had a record flood in 1993 that brought water out of the banks for well over 2 miles and killed all the birds that lived in the bottoms. Well last month my dad said he saw a pheasant alongside the highway in the bottoms - I didn't believe him. Last week my buddy said he saw a pheasant along a road on the high ground. So that got me thinking. So what do I see standing in the shoulder of the highway this evening??? A rooster Could be the numbers are starting to really come back

Nevermind. I just found out a duck club set 70 pheasants loose in March for a hunt (probably illegal but duck clubs are privilaged and can do no wrong). Well they only killed 35.

The survial rate of pen raised birds is poor ..........But if a few lived to reproduce......Unless the duck club released ALL roosters.........Than I guess it would be Broke-back Pheasant time

Well if one dumb rooster made it and bred 4-5 wild hens you'd have chicks raised by a wild hen. They should make it
