Well yesterday the temps got up to the mid 60's.
Started the day out planning on doing some reloading. About 10:00 am the dog wanted out again and I noticed that it was WARM and the wind wasn't blowing 90 MPH for once. Dog wanted to go for a walk. Must of as she drug her leash down stairs where I was resizing some .223's so I grabbed the leash and headed down the road with her. While walking I got to thinking about the prairie dogs just south of town and wondered if they were out, so when I finished walking the dog I started loading up the truck. Took the Kimber .22 SVT the Rem 700 VS .223 and the Rem 700 VSF .22-250 and headed for the small dog town. When I arrived I decided to just use the hood of the truck for a rest till I seen how many were out and if it was worth the effort. Well after about 40 minutes and only spotting one PD I finally gave up. Someone else had evidently been there before me and had put them all to bed again. So I headed out to the range to at least get some trigger time in.
Good thing I did as I had taken the .223 out of the stock to check the bedding and when I went to shoot it I found it was shooting 4"s to the left and a bit high. I really need to get an inch lb torque wrench as this hit and miss adjustment is really messing with me. Last time out I had it shooting 1/4" groups but would throw one shot 1" high each 5 shot group. Always the first shot. Figured it was the bedding so when I got home I tore it down and sure enough there is a spot where the barrel was rubbing. Sanded it down just a bit and hoped it took care of the problem. This time it shoots very nice groups with no spread but nothing tighter than 1/2" groups. GRRRRRRRRRR Plus by taking the action out of the stock and doing that adjustment and then changing the torque of the bolts it really changed the POI. So I probably wouldn't of hit a PD anyway from the looks of things. Then I shot the .22-250 and seeing as how I hadn't shot it since last year figured it would be off too but it shot like it was supposed to. Nice small groups. So even though I didn't shoot any PD's I did have a good time. Really didn't want to drive an hour north just to shoot a few PD's and then turn around and come home again.
Good thing about going to the range though. Some one who has more money than I do was out there shooting and left all their brass lying around. ;D Ended up picking up about 200 .223 cases and 40 .308 cases and 20 .30-30 cases so the day was a good day.
