I think most people would call turkey season the first hunting season of the year (we'll see if that holds true here on this site). However, most people won't hunt again for 5 months. So I'm not sure how it's the first hunting season. It could be called the last season for that reason. The end of Feb ends the winter hunting and we have about a 2 month break --- far less than the 5 month break most people take. While it's not fall/winter anymore, turkey season could be the last hunt of the year. Or because turkey hunting is so unique and is really the only spring hunting opportunity, it could be all on it's own. So what is it???

It doesn't relate to other hunting seasons to me. Never get the same feeling in May that I do in the fall. I guess some people hunt bear in the spring too. I prefer fall seasons. As I've said before, I just feel guilty about shooting a turkey when he thinks he's gonna get a little jump... I've been "shot out of the saddle", not literally, enough times to know how disappointing it can be. Just can't imagine taking a blast of #6's in the face when I was about to get lucky... ;D ;D

Hunt turkeys in the spring, then hunt woodchucks all summer...so it's the first hunting season to me. Klsm, that's a dangerous line of thought....hunting deer during the rut, putting out doe in heat scent, etc.... and bugling to elk.... see where that goes?

Guess it is the 1st if I were to go. But most likely 1st will be dove season. Never could realy get past the price of a turkey licence and the pice of one in the store.

I have to call it a season in itself.
I've tried typing several paragraphs in explanation but I keep on deleting them because they don't make any sense.
Don't know how else to explain it other than "it just is"

and a Vernier sight. It's marked up to twelve-hundred yards. This one shoots a mite further.

It's always hunting season here. I look forward to hunting gobblers in the Spring. It's one of my favorite hunts. I rank it right up with javelinas which is in season in February here. I love hunting in the Spring. The bunny-uggers stopped our Spring bear hunt some years back and that was a real huge loss to me, but I can stll hunt cougars as well as Turkeys in the Spring here. Tomorrow is opening day here and I'm pretty excited right now. Hopefully I will have a piture or two to share tomorrow. I have two tags and tomorrow might be the only day I can go this season, so I will try my best to fill both tomorrow if possible at all. We'll see....

Here in Pennsylvania the deer are so gunned up after the first 15 minutes of the season that all the hopes of scoring are replaced with thoughts of surviving. And, I've never bugled an elk....soooo.... ;D ;D And it's something about spring..... when a young man turns his fancy to the fairer sex.....or something like that... ;D

Here in Virginia our game dept. shows the spring season rules and regs along with last year's game regulations, i.e. the '08 spring regs came out with the '07 game laws. They therefore consider it to be the last (game) season of the year.

Indiana has a spring and fall season now.
To me it's starts with groundhogs and turkey's and end with coyotes at the end of feb.

Well i'll get out next weekend with a friend to hunt. he has never gotten a turkey before and i'll be mostly calling for him. i wont shoot until ha gets one and the chances of getting two to come in much less one is not that great when you call as crappy as i do. i'll parley the day though by picking up some Morels and catching some big bluegills out of the pond in the afternoon. as far as i am concerned if i call in a bird and he cap's it, it was a succesfull hunt. heck i might even snatch my son's video camera and try to film it.

I tell you what, I get enjoyment like Jimh I'd rather call in a bird, jump a rabbit and have it run to the other guy, or have someone kill a deer in my stand. Makes everyone think I know what I'm doing ;D You hunting all three weekends jimh?
