Season opens Monday. I'm going tommarow to take a look around and try to find a place to hunt. I'll give it a try on wed. before everyone else does.

Our season runs between April 14 and May 4 ... We can hunt between sun-up and noon ... I'm supposed to go this coming Thursday ... It will be my first time turkey hunting ... I've decided on my 12 ga, Remington 3", 1100 model ... I will use lead shot #4's and a full choke... The worst that can happen is I don't get one ... in that case, I've never gotten one before, So I probably won't miss it... ...

We called 5 BIG toms to within 50 yards this weeeknd but the fellow I was hunting with had a M/L and so we didn't shoot. We had jakes in to 15 feet but who wants a pheasant sized turkey. Plenty of time left yet.

Our Virginia season started this past Saturday. At daybreak I had three different birds answer my call. I worked them for about an hour or so until it started pouring down rain. Once the rain started, that was it. I did have a big hen come right up to me just before I hung it up. Her calling sounded so bad I thought it was a novice hunter. Oh well, there's always next Saturday.
Bubba: Good choice of guns!

Dovehunter Boy you called it there! I remember saitting in a blind cussin the dopey hunter across the crick for his lousy calling and then a hen came out. This year my friend was breaking in a new call and when he started he was makin' some sick sounds and here come a jake running up. I think toms are just like men if she sounds the least interested we come running. Lord knows enough gals made a turkey out of me.

Well, I went Turkey hunting for the first time ever this morning... weather wasn't really that good ... kind of rainy and cold but I didn't much care... We got out a little before sun-up and got set up on a rye field ... we set up a decoy and waited ... we DID actually hear one gobble about 7 AM but he never presented himself for a shot ... I guess the closest he ever got was 200 yards away ...
Now I can't say, I've never been turkey hunting... I may get a chance to get out again before this season closes... at least I hope I do.. I'd like to bag one my first season ...

My Dad (84) and his buddy (80 and with an artificial leg) came up to Turkey hunt. Dad stayed at the cabin to cook all the time and I took his buddy Clyde out to HUNT? Now the last time Clyde was here he was telling me how ho couldn't shoot too well anymore since the diabetes that took his leg a couple of years ago was causing him to lose sight in his left eye and his hands get so stiff he can't work the action on his gun. So we go out and I put him in the middle of 4 cedar trees and have him sit there while I go behind him and call. Pretty soon I hear some noise and come back and he's sitting on the ground and his leg has fell off. He tried to move, fell and lost his leg so I had to roll him on to a tarp (did I mention he's 250#) take his pants off and re attach his leg so we can get him back in the truck. We did get him a bird later in the day, but this was one of my more unique hunts. Of course he lost his leg during deer season too, but that's another story.

LOL....Ahh Twomoons, that's almost as fun as takin' kids hunting... ;D I hunted with a friends father a few years back and was there with him one time when I thought I would have to aim the rifle for him. When he finally did see the deer, he let one fly and I'll be darned she piled up. But he had taken her through the spine, just north of the hams... Still a great thrill to help oldtimers get out there again, you never know when it will be their last hunt...
