Ah now a Ruger no.1! That's the one I get all gushy over. I'd much rather have a nice walnut stocked and blued no. 1 than a B-78 or it's Winchester counterpart that most everyone here seems to hold in such awe. This opinion was reinforced after looking at both at my favorite gunshop yesterday. I guess all this just proves the old saying that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

The Ruger is a pre warning in 45-70 with a Weaver 2.5x scope. Not my druthers for caliber anymore but I came up in beauty. Or is that BOOTY? Last Weatherby caliber I had was a 257 and Bill got that one and soon tired of feeding it powder! If I remember right only 10 more grains of powder than a 25-06 would give you another 100 fps. Now I need to find my 45-70 brass.

a 45-70 in single shot format has got to grab the attention of the shooter i would think. that being said, i bet it would lay down even the biggest of a Northern Missouri Whitetail in a hurry! as well as the shoulder of the shooter on the other end.

Depends on how yo load it, the Ruger is 8 pounds and with reasonable loads is't that bad but load it up to 458 range and it's a killler. You don't need a lot of velocity to KILL with a 45 caliber, but trajectory is a problem when you get out there a ways.

I think you have me mixed up with someone else TM's. Never had a .257 Wby. Wouldn't mind one though except for the high cost of brass and powder their a great cartridge.

Used 257 weatherby on a 1917 action that came from Ken Teadke, I bought it and you had it for a little while. This would be back in January of 1982 The reason I remember is that I kept notes in my loading book, To Bill R 63 grains of IMR 4831 117 grain Speer boattail. And this was a starting load!

;D I think you forgot before you wrote the notes. ;D Nope don't remember the .257 Wby. I do remember the swift. I owned a couple of them but they didn't stick around long. Must of been something about it I didn't like If I did have one and it sure must of not stuck around long at all. Course it could of been trading stock or something. Most of those came and went and never were shot.

BTW, I like single shots too. I like both the Ruger #1 and the 1885/B78.
