Just to update. Still haven't been to the range again. Right now, I'm looking at scopes for the rifle. Right now, it's wearing my 'range' scope- a 6-20 Weaver Grand Slam. Great scope for the range, or varminting, but not so good for deer hunting- those fine crosshairs get hard to pick up in low light, and it's a big beast on top of the rifle for toting around. By hunting season,I'll have a 3-9 or 4-12 for it, I think.

Another update. I've been looking at scopes for a while, trying to decide which one- and more messages back and forth picking Bill's store of knowledge. ;D I finally decided to get a Meopta 3-9x42. And of course, it was out of stock. I did finally get it this week, got it mounted and spent some time at the range today. Got the rifle zeroed, so it's ready to hunt. Now I'll just have to hope a deer walks out in front of me. . . . BTW, my first impression of the scope is that it's VERY nice! Crisp right to the edges of the field, and the plane of focus is nice and flat. Testing the scope in the back yard before dawn and after sunset, it seems to gather light very well, too. The real test, of course, will come in the deer stand, but that's a month away.

That Meopta should be a good scope. I know that the high end optics (binoculars) that Cabela's sells are made by them and their awesome. Compare very well with some of the other high end optics made in Germany. Good luck with the hunt.

Just to update, I took the 25-06, and sat in a blind over a foodplot a few times, but never saw a shooter, so the 25-06 remains unblooded. I did get a chance to evaluate the Meopta 3-9 in the field. It is a very bright scope- I think the equal of the Zeiss Conquest 3-9, and that is bright indeed! I will say, I prefer the Zeiss's adjustment knobs. The Meopta's work fine, but the Conquests knobs are very cleverly designed. The Meopta comes with a nice set of scope caps, which the Conquest doesn't. Overall, they're the same price, and equal value, IMO. Can't go wrong with either one.
