A friend Phil stoped in just a bit ago from a gun show and showed me his new purchase A Baikal single shot in .308 seems to be pretty nice for $325.00 in todays world, The barrel looks as it was twisted out of the forge counter clockwise witch shure gives it a differant look of out side rifleling LOL. But as I said for the money today I liked it.

The Bikal shotguns seem to be well recieved. Never saw thir rifles but would expect them to be a serviceable rifle. Must be hammer forged barrels.

LOOKS LIKE A NICE ONE! Should be plenty of rifle for a good shot. I agree that the barrel not being turned down flat looks different. Ruger did that with one version a target model of their 10/22 and I kind of like it.

I did ask phil if he would put a scope on it and he thought that he would after he shoots it this way a bit.

Looks like a russian made ruger #1. I take it that it is available in 7.62X39. Feed the ex-socialist pigs. What would fox news say. For 325 its is most likely the best out of box deal outside of the american made 336a from marlin.
I think it is the same russian gig that makes the rem spartan line of shotguns and that savage model 24 with the shotgun barrel on top.
I would spend money on a t/c encore instead but that me.

Looks like a russian made ruger #1... I don't know that I'd go quite that far. It looks a little on the funky side to me. For that price you could get an NEF Handi-Rifle and maybe a scope (for a few more bucks). The TC Encore is a little on the pricey side for my tastes, considering it's still just a single-shot. I think it's ugly too but different strokes for different folks.

OK the handi does make the list along with the 336a as the best buy per dollar. .... I hope things go well with H&R with the freedom arms buyout, I would rather get the handi with scope than the commie gun. Keep americans working for a while anyway. Rem markets the handi and the A Baikal single shot. In my opinion rem got to trim down the offerings to start making money again. They just have to many irons in the fire and quality has been slipping lately.
I have yet to pick up an encore just gen 1 contenders. Back in the day the pistol frame without barrel was 135 dollars. Barrels were 125 for 10 inch. I got a deal going on to get a encore rifle with 243 and 7-08 barrel stainless at 600 but I keep getting better stuff each time I get the cash flow back to the 400 level some other deal comes along and I get it instead.
I will have to post pictures of that BL-22 i got face to face. 225 out the door but it had so much smoke for setting next to a wood stove for years it looked ugly when i got it. There seems to be lots of people sell off guns to pay bills right now. I think if T/c would spend less on rigging up pro hunters to sell the guns and chop prices down to reflect the cost of the guns minus the advertising more people would buy them.

Phil just came out to try out his new .308. from over the top of the rear tire on my Farmal H at about 35 yards his 1st shot was a 10X 2nd a 10 nearly a 10 x, then a 10 & two 9's
I told him that was not bad at all, next time it will either get better or worse LOL. He says it is staring to open & close better already??? I said that shooting lose pretty fast isen't it? LOL.
He did say he had trouble seeing the font sight good, said it needed improved for him.

Can he mount a scope on it? I would think where you guys live and hunt that he would want a scope anyway.

yes it's made for a scope too. I think he will get one once he is satifyed with the gun's ability.

You do need a special scope mount for the gun and so far Doc hasn't been able to get any. The last one I handled I had to mill off the top and put on a flat base weaver mount.

baikal has been making over&under rifle/shotgun combos for years. i've shot a few of them and they are very accurate. my hunting buddy has one in 308/12g.

I looked at them as the rebranded rem spartan line I believe. Would make a great coyote gun.

I was asked by someone in town how Phil's Rem shot? At 1st I did not know what they were talking about, but when I got my thinking on I tolled how it did,Then He said they are no longer makeing them. Again I am stumped. To shorten the story I guess Reminton has stoped selling them under the Rem. name as of 2010 As he wanted one and now can;t get one. So Phil had better keep his Reminton box as a collector...smiles
