I am trying to identify an antique double barrel caplock muzzleloading shotgun I have acquired. Pictures of the gun and all the markings I can find can be seen at: photobucket.com/RonMuzzleloadingShotgunAny help anyone can provide would be appreciated.

Made in Belgum, 18.4 if this is right? not 13.4 or 16.4 is your gauge. Prouf marks I would have to look up if I can even? Nice looking gun. If an 18.4 this would be the 1st I have seen. Looks like a English gun but definatly Belgum made barrels. Now T/M's & bill can tell me I am wrong?

Late Belgian make probably circa 1880+. The 18.4 in this case isn't the bore it's the proof load pressure. These guns were for sale at Sears and Monkey Wards as late as 1920. Just a nice old hunting doouble.
Bounce I been bz and if DD hadn't hollered at me I wouldn't have seen this for a couple of days yet.

I would guess from the proof marks that its prior to 1885 as they changed the proof marks mid 80's some time and added another one onto the black powder proofs which makes it easier to date by before or after unless I missed that mark. I can't get the photo's to enlarge so can't really tell. If its a later than 1910 it would have 2 3/4" chambers. I wish I could read the marks better.
With the long butt plate extension going forward at the top of the butt plate and from the looks it appears to be a very nice gun and from the 1880's.

My guess Bill is that you have gone blind or democrate as I think chambering any shells maybe a bit tough to do. But then I guess you probibly haven't played with a muzzel loader for years as a young man and us old farts just have a hard time seeing anymore? good luck on them 1500yd dogs you just maybe that far sighted now!!!!!
