Heck anything is possible Jack. She is going in to see the vet this thrusday to see if thats a possiblity plus get a good check up to see if she is in good shape and anything else that needs looking at. I'm looking at getting her spayed before she goes to Donnie's to get her training finished up in July and want to have all of this out of the way prior to taking her up.

I know there will be opinions from every one of us, and they will all be different.
If she was my pup... I'd let her eat all she wants for a while. If she starts getting so fat that you are worried about her... then worry about cutting her back. But for a while at least, I'd keep her some food out all the time and see how she does.

Now I like my calories and eat like 3000 a day. Anyone who tries to cut that in half is going to get their...well I won't be happy and won't feel good.
If you gave her 4, then I might give her 3 1/2 for a week. And then 3 for a month. If you want to take it down to 2 1/2 then you probably could.
The brand of food and the contents within it may be the difference too. You might try feeding more "diet" or "light" food or less food that is high in protein.
I think we have to treat dogs like people in terms of diet and excersize. I'm not going to drop 10 pounds in a month most likly, and neither should a dog - especially considering that's a greater percentage of loss.

red i agree with all of that, i just can't afford to let a new full 50lb bag sit so i'm getting creative in my aproach.

Sorry guys... I crossed threads... I was responding to bills pup, I imagine ya'll figured that out already.
For a fat dog... and Cooper got a little heavy 4 or 5 months ago, I just cut him back. Actually went to a higher protein food and fed less. He's where I want him to be now. I feed him about 2 cups a day of Diamond Hi-pro. I think it's 26% protein and 28% fat... of vice-versa. Some days he'll even skip a feeding on his own. When he does that I do not feed him again untill his bowl is empty again. It seems to be working, but there is a new pup coming. We'll see how things change when the new little girl arrives.
