I don't have a picture on the muntiacus muntjac, but it is very similar like your pic above. Some of them have a redish/brownish hair, while others just as like your pic (a dark grey/blackish). The horn is also about same (two points). The biggest male weight about 35 kgs. Normal size is about 20-25 kgs, btw. I still in progress with my jeep (re-paint it), when it is done I'll go hunt again and will show you the pic.

The color variation on these Muntjac are also as you mention. I think the sub-species you have are bigger from the sound of it though. May be the same basic animal. I know the ones in England were imported from somewhere in your area of the world. Not sure where exatly.

Not sure if they were imported from Indonesia though?...but maybe. England/UK ever occupied Indonesia long time ago. This muntjac is available in most islands/areas over here (not all areas, though). In my province, I can get this deer for just about 60 miles from my house (about 2 hours drive, since the road isn't so good, lol).

I was told that some wealthy British royalty brought these in for their personal game preserve a long time ago and some excaped to produce the population they have now. Don't know that for sure though.

Sebastian, here's a picture of one of the Sambar stags one of my hunting buddies killed while I was down in Australia last year. I didn't get a shot.

Very typical here. Ever shot one before, but it was smaller.
