I went to Buschs b/c it's about a 25 minute drive at 5am. If you want more details as to my wearabout - I'd have to kill you. That makes 4 years in a row I got my limit - all killed withing 100 yards of eachother. Didn't know if I was going to get the 6th. There was 3 playing around in the same tree. I blasted as each came down to investigate. I get there and see all three down --- then all of a sudden ones jumps up and stares at me. I thought I could catch him instead of shoot again. Nope I looked all over fallen logs, etc trying to find him wedged in under. I gave up and began walking back when all of a sudden he jumped out from under me b/c I about stepped on him. The little dern thing burried himself in the leaves. He climbed a big tree but could only make it halfway up. We played the little game of him and me constantly being on the opposite side of the tree. Finally I just grabbed a piece of wood and tossed past the tree so he would spin around facing me. Should of seen his face before I shot - He was like "oh crap" ;D I think the meat lasts a lot longer than people think. It didn't get near as hot as it gets sometimes and I got home earlier than most times. Normally during the summer I'll skin them by 11 or noon.

Wow! Squirrel hunting when Spring Turkey season is in up north. Our season is 5 months away yet. We like to let the young'ns quit nursing before we kill 'em.... ;D

I normally don't see the young ones until about september. I don't know much about the growth patterns of squirrels, but I don't see young ones this time of year though I'm sure they are born by now.

lets face it guys my son and i will become tick magnets before the day is over. i really want to see what the .17hmr will do to a squirrels head but i have to let the kid shoot one first before i can pull down on one. heck even if we don't get down there until close to 5:00 we can still shoot a little and still have a couple hours of prime time to wack the little buggers.

Oh Jim, although it's too late I wouldn't go in the evening !!! But you have probably figured out by now that they won't move I won't go in the evening until mid-late september when the temp cools down. I won't even go on a 75 degree june evening.

Red, we saw about a dozen or so and over half where youngn's. they where so small it was like trying to shoot at a pencil. anyway my son missed his shots but it was tough trying to shoot a .22lr at 30 yds through a lot of growth at a critter that figeted more than he does. we saw a couple of turkeys and had a great time. we did shoot a tad before hitting the woods and his rifle realy likes the velositors, my .17 seems to really like the 17 gr tnt's. but i need a lot more work at range time on it as i think floating it and getting rid of the pressure point might help it like them all.
