We can shoot all the dam starlings and grackles we want to ... in fact we used to shoot them all summer long just to keep in practice.... however, no red wing black birds... they're protected... I used to sit out back of my dad's barn and shoot all the blackbirds and pigeons I could handle...
Anyone ever eat pigeon?
They're pretty good eating ...

Oh no, I was afraid of this. I saw some redwing blackbirds behing my house this afternoon, and immediately had visions of Red going at them with an AK47 or something similar. The power of suggestion can be so strong at times. Best wishes.

Country Pigeons are ok if you get them young... but IMO it in NO way beats quail.

You might have heard of the dish called squab in some restaurants. That's pigeon - also known as sewer falcons , for those of you who are city dwellers.

One mans trash is another mans treasure Bounce. One of the things that makes America great. We don't HAVE to agree about anything.
Squab is BABY pigeons I think.
I'll need to start catching some pigeons again soon as I'll have a little dog to train later this summer.

I like pigeon as well. They have a clean pleasant taste similar to Woodduck. I know there is very little that I have not tryed once, or if the opertunity turns up, give something new a try. My wife just shakes her head at me at times & tells folks that if it will form a turd, it'll be on his menu. Curiosity of what something tastes like at times gets the bests of me ;D. I do not recommend eatin' surf turkeys (seagalls). They without a dought are nasty, even smoked.

;D Yup. I sure do remember ya sayin' it. Believe it was back on the old board. Coyote isn't much different then anything else. It depends on the cut of meat, how it was prepared. Was it's Adrenalin level hi or low at the time it died, ect... Coyote ain't all that bad, however it isn't as good as wild dog. No matter what, I haven't found myself hungry enough to dine on fox. Oh crap. After readin' this I bet *DD is gonna start pickin' up road kill & freezin' it to serve it to me during my deer hunt come Dec. ;D ;D ;D

When I was going to undergraduate school, I ate a wide variety of meats. squirrel, cotton tail, jack rabbit, pigeon, deer, pheasant, quail, partridge, racoon, geese, ducks, and a few I won't mention. Normally I have kept away from carnivors (I only tried racoon once). You might say I was and still am one of those People Enjoying Tasty Animals. I thought pigeon was very good eating.

Dakota ~ Some years back, when I proposed marriage to my wife while riding down the road after comin' up outta the woods, I said to her, that if she was to hook up with me, she'd never go hungry. (lookin back, at myself, I was a real Don Won ) We didn't go 5 miles down the road & out ran 2 coon. There was no avoidin' them. So I backed up, & I am standin' in the headlights holdin' up 2 coon for her inspection. I found out later that she really wasn't impressed with this, but overlooked it for my benefit. ;D. Well after gettin home from the car ride were I proposed marriage, got 2 coon and a good buzz goin' I started skinnin out my kill. By the time I got to the second coon, I forgot in all of my drunkenness to remove those real tangy scent glads. She ate the first coon but wasn't impressed, just ate it for me. Well a week later when I cooked up the second one that I put in the freezer, it kinda made the house smell a bit gamey. Well, I said here try this baby, & she did. Well she made such a nasty face that I said, well if it's that bad, I'm not even goin' to try it. Well she just about lost it, slapped me upside my head & ain't tried nothing else if it wasn't from a store or deer meat ;D.

I once fileted and diced the breasts of 64 pigeons that DD and Bill and I shot. I fed them to the kids as chicken pot pie and they never knew the difference. Of course I once fed D/D sheep and he ate it for beef. All depends how it's cooked and how hungry you are. D/D would eat a wet dishrag if it came with free drinks. Personally I don't much care for quail as i work up a hunger trying to gget any meat off those little things, 'bout like filet of bluegill.
