Haven't recieved the walker yet, but thought I would start asking more questions. Inparticular, the cleaning process. I assume you take the barrel off because you don't want to get the wood grips all wet I assume a 45caliber jag will fit down the 44caliber barrel (or is there a separate jag that can be purchased) I am wondering if I can use the same ramrod off my 50cal rifle - I see no reason why not. The cylinder Obvouisly you take the nipples off and clean them as normal. But what about the cylinder? Do you let it submerge for a few minutes and then run the jag through each chamber as you would the barrel? Any other good tips I need to know?

I would suggest removing the barrel because it is easier to clean when you can get at both ends. I think my .45 jag will fit through the barrel of my .44 '58 Rem. repro. If it doesn't you can use the slotted tip and with a couple of tight patches. I clean my B.P. guns with hot, soapy water. I don't mind dunking the barrel and the cylinder, and yes, I remove the nipples, but I do not dunk the action. Put some WD-40 or good quality spray oil on the whole gun once you're through and you should be okay. I have had my Rem. repro. for about 25 years now and have never had any problems with it (including rust) cleaning it this way.
I have heard, with the stainless steel B.P. guns, that all you need to do with them is run them under the faucet. I don't know whether or not I would buy into that.

I think you pretty much got it all right on the cleaning Red. DH's advise was all good too. I always used an old tooth brush to scrub off the balck powder from the frame and breach plate and then oiled it up when I was done. Same with the front of the cylinder and breach end of the barrel. No top strap to worry about on the colt walker so thats not a big problem. Just use hot soapy water and scrub the rest of the parts and while their still warm lay them out to dry before oiling. Also try something new, read the instructions that come with it.
