I fight this fight without passion really. In Indiana, which is the only state that I have experience in, they want us to kill more and more deer. They do it without extending the season any. They also limited us to 1 buck per year total, no matter what. But essentially unlimited does. There are county limits, but if you hunt in many counties... you can kill MANY does.

When I started hunting, I bought a knight rifle. I use a solid lead bullet and black powder. I use my knight rifle, even during the "firearms" season, which allows shotguns with slugs and hand guns as well. We do not have a centerfire rifle season.

Thw whole arguement always comes back to, the FACT that ya'll are pissed because there are other people in the woods when you are. You want (and had) a reserved season to hunt they way YOU like to hunt. I personally contend that you'd still be pissed if there were as many people hunting YOUR way, but I digress. People ARE lazy, and people do use inlines and the makers are the easy ones to blame. You do have to clean your inlines though. Evidenced by the fact that I forgot to ONCE and ruined the barrell. I have a couple knights, and one is my original that I bought in 1994.

I admit that hunt to kill deer. To get meat. To save money on beef. I kill 5 or 6 deer a year (usually) and butcher them all myself. I live off that all year long. I'll give away what I have left in about October to make way for the fresh. I do my own grinding as well. Does that make me a bad guy? Does the fact that I use an in-line make me evil? Should I lose the muzzleloader season that I have always had because some of you guys feel like your toes have been stepped on?

Personally I think they should extend the firearms season here, if they want to kill more deer. I also think that if they are gonna have a TRADITIONAL muzzleloader season, they should have it BEFORE the main firearms season. And I'll hunt that one too!

Than why not buy a TRADITIONAL muzzleloader now Why wait You can use it instead of the "In-line" Oh I know "Cause you don't HAVE to"

DD... right now I use the Knight because it's the best tool I have for the job IMO. That's why I use it during the firearms season too. I think it does a better job than a shotgun does, plus it forces me to wait on ONE good shot. I'd say I miss less than say 1 in 20 times I shoot. I wait on GOOD shots.

But... I'd like to have a nice traditional gun. I have talked to you and Two Moons about it before. I just have never gotten really serious, because you are right, I don't HAVE to. I do have a an old .45 flinter kit that I keep talking about trying to kill a deer with, but never seem to get around to.

I avoid all the yahoo's by doing a lot of scouting, map buying, and walking. In season and out. Turkey's, mushrooms, grouse season etc. To find public land available that not a lot of people hunt. It's out there... at least in Indiana it is. You just have to be willing to walk to the places that no one else is willing to walk to. That's how I start. I look for the deepest places on the map, without good road access, and go there.

This is where I am not as lazy as everyone else... yes I shoot an inline gun, but I go where others are not willing to go, kill deer and drag them out. Sometimes I kill more than one, and sometimes I pass on them because I am not willing to drag them out of where I AM.

Well at least you got a head on your shoulders. But you should quit talking and get a tradition MLer. Theres a "I did it right" feeling that comes w/ each deer harvested w/ a traditional MLer thats like no other feeling you'll get ( Hunting deer ). Try it you'll see!!!!!

I have a .54 TC Renegade flinter. My brother stole the barrell off it for his TC renegade cap lock when he wore it out. Or rubed it wore out cleaning it or whatever.

I'd like a .58 cal gun I think.

My other problem is, I just don't shoot iron sights too good. I grew up shooting with a scope, and I'm about half blind any way. Ya'll would kill me if'n I put a piece of glass on a pretty traditional gun.

Well you know, sometimes it gets REALLY boring shooting deer with the same rifle. If you shoot and kill a bunch a year, it might be nice to change things up a little bit.

The day I get bored killing deer is the day I'll stop hunting them.

Sometimes I don't pull the trigger, but I still get a rush every time. I'll look at one in the scope and say to myself... "Bang. Got you."
